    Question Securview Mirror/Monitor

    Hello All,

I'm curious about the Securview rear-view mirror/2.5" color monitor combination (see it here).

Have any members purchased this unit? If so, what are your impressions?

    Thanks!

I don't know about anyone having this, but it is pretty sweet! However, at $650 for the mirror with integrated monitor or $500 for the stand-alone monitor, plus about $300 for the camera, it seems a bit steep too. But I definitely like it! Guess you may have to lose having reading lamps on the mirror (I think), but I'd never use 'em anyway.

saw something similar in JC Whitney - it is made by Automan. Same 2.5" monitor size, includes camera for $499.99. Deluxe model includes compass and digital thermometer for $599.99. The camera appears to mount on the bumper, but presumably it could be modified/rigged to go into the spot above the license plate on ours. I'm seriously considering the one with the compass and thermometer.

    Lightbulb Wow...

...That's a lot of money to pay for a rear view gadget. try VanEyes for $10, to assist you in seeing what is behind you at and above bumper level. Besides, it's allways better to turn your head and look anyways

LOL...I've had the VanEyes for so long now it's inconceivable how I would parallel park or back up without it! Definitately a low $$$
good working mod towards dealing with the visibility issues on the VX.

But, High Tech gadgets are cool and if you got the money to spend I say go for it! Besides...I always liked the High Tech gadgetry on Knight Rider, AirWolf, Blue Thunder....why not have fun with the VX!

*** sure do miss those kinds of shows!

That's for sure - Airwolf was da bomb! :-) Well, until the original cast left.

That Automan mirror/camera kit is the way to go. Camera and mirror with integrated monitor, plus digital thermometer and digital compass? All that for for $600... heck yeah! That's going on my wish list.

I would trade my VX for an airwolf anyday, or even just the base Bell helicopter they started with, but it would have to play the theme song everytime I took off or it just wouldn't be the same.

    Thumbs up Cool Rules...

... It's a cool mod, I say go for it, post pics when you're done

BTW, in an early experiment, I plugged a Logitech webcam into the USB port of my laptop and set the image on reverse, worked quite well

Airwolf is probably why I am so hung up on helicopters to this day. Here's me playing Stringfellow Hawke...

Actually it was at Witham Field in Stuart, FL (River Helicopters). Instructor flies Learjets for someone now. But yeah, he bought the helicopter from a place in Toronto that I believe was called Black Stallion Helicopters. He left the horse on there because he kinda liked it and it was a conversation starter. That helicopter was subsequently sold to another school in South Florida and was lost in inclement weather just 100 yds off the shoreline of Marathon Key. Occupants weren't too banged up but the helicopter was a loss. Crashed the same night I got engaged to be married, actually.

The woman from Knight Rider who was always fixing KITT... she was foxier. :-)

    rear view mirror

isn't it already hard enough to see through the windshield without adding an even larger one? I've had a few close calls from my lack of visability from the rear view mirror.

    Smile

:-) Both were fine by me, but I'm partial to this one (April, the redhead played by Rebecca Holden)...

P.S. - The Bell 222 used in Airwolf made a few airshow appearances around the country and was then stripped and returned to factory specs. A lot of the body moldings were sold to collectors. It was sold to a company in Germany that converted it into an EMS chopper. It was lost in a crash during a rescue attempt.
