    New Engine!

OK, so after 140K my VX's Engine died on me. I blame it on an idiot mechanic after he did a faulty timing belt change, but cant prove it! I have had this baby since it was born and found a place in Baltimore to put a brand new Isuzu OEM engine in with a 3 year/100K warranty on parts and labor. Talke them down to 5500.00 for the compelte job and I sure hope it come back OK! Has anyone replaced an engine with an OEM one?

yeah, I believe several have...mostly rebuilt, not new. I know "phines" (Paul) most recently had a new/rebuilt one put in about 6 months ago. He's also an original owner, maybe PM him for any questions.

I bought a re-built engine and had it installed at my local Isuzu shop. It works fine with no problems.

There's a brand new engine for a VX for sale on EBay for $1500. Good price.

You talked them down to $5.5K USD. How much were they asking at the beginning??? Even $5.5K would be a tough pill to swallow on a platform that already has 140K miles on the drivetrain. That is some dedicated VX love right there folks.

If they installed a new Isuzu crate motor then you got the modified pistons with it. The 3 year 100,000 mile warranty is worth something too. Most engine builders here locally only offer a 30 day to 1 year at best warranty on their builds.

Dose Isuzu provide new "crate motors". The new ones I've seen for sale are what would be called "short blocks".

Does that mean the motor doesn't eat oil? If I had an extra $3k I'd buy one for when mine dies at 333,333.33 miles.

The rebuilt one I got from Barnette's in VA has a 5-year, unlimited mileage warranty. I think it was about $2,500. Took me about 2 months to get it, but other than that it was hassle-free. No up front core charge, and so long as you send yours back in refurbishable condition, they won't charge you on the back end either. AND they pay for shipping both ways. It's been in for a little over a month now and I've got no complaints - it runs great. I've got other issues probably related to fuel pressure and throttle body to work out, but the engine's doin' good at least...
