    A new VX supercharger option?

Apparently, this guy in Russia made it happen with his VX-

Here's where you can get one in the US for $2200-

Obviously, it's not a plug 'n play deal. That Russian guy must really know what he's doing. Maybe someone over here with the required knowledge could make it happen?

That vid didn't look too complicated. The main thing holding me (and probably others) from doing a home built turbo kit is a way to tune the engine to keep it safe under boost.

To do what he did it seems the biggest problem is getting a bracket to mount it in line with the pulley system already on the car.

This is the project that I am referring to in the Robbomaz thread... It took the guy from Rostov (south of Russia) 2 years to complete and was way more expensive than the original S/C by Tone.
Just got installed a couple of days ago, needs some fine-tuning still, but he already runs out of 7 secs on 0-100km, even without adjustment for R20 tires..
The guy used to run on Alpine before and says the Rotrex gives much more power..
Here is the original 11-page thread... all in Russian, but some English names of the items used and some pix there.

p.s. his VX has like 250k miles on the clock, but looks better than 99% of VXs out there..

    Thumbs up

This mod seems to be a more viable way to S/C'd our VX.

Now we need a do it your self write-up with comprehensive and explicit instructions from Mr gary.

My 1rst question is : Did Mr gary had to use a higher octane fuel after the upgrade ?
    Dakar was just the begining.

Higher octane would be a very smart thing to use since there isn't a way to adjust timing, or fuel flow, or account for the extra incoming air from a s/c.

If I had the money to spare on this, and not another project already, I'd love to do something with a s/c. I still think the only real way to get real performance from one of these units is to find a way to alter the factory ecu settings. I sent SCT an email like a month ago and got completely ignored! The only real option I've found is the very expensive replacement unit from an Australian company.

You don't only need to worry about the fuel and ignition. The VX transmission isn't rated to handle more than another 60 or so foot-pounds of torque. The Alpine S/C boosts the engine output just about to the limits of the transmission, along with the limits of the stock injectors and fuel maps.

I have been designing a similar setup using centrifugal superchargers. The project was put on hold when I had engine problems but now that its back on the road, I can finally finish it.

I believe Paxton makes similar superchargers to that one. Looks VERY simple, but as stated before, the mounting bracket will be tough.

the ever so humble 4L30E bolted to that engine of yours, is already at its practical limit.....if you want any sort of reliability from it.
You dial in more than a "tad" additional torque, and you WILL shred it, and sooner rather than later.

For those that don't know or remember:

Morgan-Tec used a Powerdyne BD-11A Supercharger in his Axiom. Here are his videos that I was able to find, but the actual pictures of his build process is on a different computer, and they seem to be gone from his build thread.

    A few test runs...

He had to take out the mechanical fan on his to make the pulleys work, but In the video on the OP the mechanical fan is still used. If anyone can get ahold of Morgan-Tec, he may still have the templates for the brackets and what not...

    That's the ones Mr. Dubs!!!

I tore through all 3 computers before i realized I had them on my external backup!

Looking at the pictures again... I see why he had to do away with the mechanical fan and use the electric one... But then again, that's an Axiom, so maybe the VX has enough room???

So, you can basically pick up a Powerdyne BD-11A from Ebay or even a pick-a-part for less than $1k, rebuild for around $350 and get a plate made at a machine shop as long as you have a viable template for +/- $100, some odds and ends, a bit of measuring, and you should a a decent setup right...

I searched Google for that part and it comes back with everything from $.25 to $25K. Why do I have a feeling that will be the case here?

If this thing was five bucks, I'd buy it just to set it on a shelf...as art...

In my world, this qualifies as art...

And Hunny Girl, bless her little , has no problem with any of it, from Badger, Coyote, & Human skulls etc around the L R/mancave, to VX tires, wheels, shocks & parts here & there.

Quite interesting. I suggested the Rotrex in a couple threads before. I had a C38-81 I was planning on throwing into my Acura but sold it about a month ago, as I'm parting and selling the Acura. The Rotrex method is a lot simpler than using an Eaton-type unit that requires a *lot* of modification. You need to have a mount made for the s/c, run the piping, get a pulley made to power it, and you're pretty much done (outside of fuel and tuning issues that need to be addressed). HKS also makes version similar to the Rotrex.

I thought about using the Rotrex on the VX, but with mpg kinda borderline as is, I didn't want to lower the mpg even more, as at least one of the 2 vehicles I have needs to get decent gas mileage.

Edit: Looking at the video, he went with a Synapse Engineering blow-off valve. *NICE!*

Oh, and you can pick the s/c up here for $2095.
