Steering wheel normal to right, resistance to left

I've noticed the steering wheel is taking extra effort to turn to the left and there is some resistance. But it turns normally to the right.

    Steering gearbox?
    Power steering pump?
    Suspension?

    Any thoughts?

It sounds like steering gear. The pump can be inoperable and you'll still have steering, just not power steering. It would turn with the same resistance in either direction. I've had the steering sector go out on another vehicle and it completely locked up in one direction, talk about getting your attention at 65 miles per hour!! Suspension shouldn't be a factor unless you've changed something recently; otherwise, a binding component would bind in either direction I would think.

I stopped by a shop but it was too late in the day. Not sure if they saw the VX when I pulled up, but explained what was happening ad they said the gear box. Anyone here change one out? or is it better done in the shop?

I had the same issue with mine. Low fluid due to a leak. Probably allowed air into the lines. Filled mine and over a little time it worked itself out.
Just an fyi...if your box is bad be ready for a shock to the wallet (especially if you have the work done). Aftermarket box when I priced them were about $450, factory even more....labor will be in the 4-6 hour range.
Check your fluid level first! The fitting on the hoses are a prime area of leaks on our VXs and most other vehicles.

Fluid was fine, I did a siphon-replace but no real change. Headed to ATL for the weekend so it looks like we're using my friends car till this is sorted out.

Yeah, I was checking the prices at Zone and Advanced.

Got a Trooper gear box with 20K miles on it for $150 today. Will try get it put in on Monday.

It sucks that the return line off the box is order online only.

It's in the shop and being worked on today. I had to run a used pump to them I had stashed away.

They just called and said the steering fluid reservoir cracked. They hoped I had one of those too. Derp.

So folks, go get a spare reservoir- you'll be happy to have one.

    Ha.

I picked it up this morning, drove to work and lost the power assist. Got into a lot and made some calls and turned the VX back on it it was fine. A friend followed me back to the shop so they can look at it. It came and went a few times back to the shop.

The gearbox, pump, hoses, reservoir were all changed out. Used parts, rebuilt hoses (that was not cheap).

    Sigh.
