Spent some time puttering in the yard after work this afternoon and just stopped and reflected on the VX relationship while admiring the head-on view. Sometimes it's hard to believe I actually have a VX after that wonderful (but all too brief) test drive back in '99. Yep, the $35K sticker-shock kept me in a '95 Trooper Limited for a bit longer.
We went up to Atlanta just the other weekend for a friends wedding reception and I noticed some interesting things along the 500 mile drive up I-75. About every 45 minutes I would pass a Murano. About every hour or so I would see a Chrysler Crossfire heading the other way. We saw no less than 12 Porsche Cayennes.
The only VehiCROSS we saw was when we visited Johnnyapollo.
Now all those other vehicles are kinda neat, but there's just gobs of them. The only way to be unique is extreme customization, which means you're still painting on the same canvas available to the masses.
Not us. About 4,000 or less. Only 230 total for me. That's just cool. I'm one of only 230 Dragons, and I had the pleasure of meeting Gruven at a meet this year who owns the only other Dragon I've seen. It's just neat to be talking with other owners and enthusiasts and be able to speak about such things as actually having seen a Foxfire, the exclusivity of the VX just sets all apart.
I visited a friend in Tallahassee a few months back and while cruising to grab a bite he asked "Do you feel like everyone is looking at you?". I just said you get used to it, but it feels great when you notice.
I'm glad I bought an '84 Impulse that gave me over 160,000 trouble free miles and a good deal of enjoyment. I'm glad I've had three Troopers that gave me over 150,000 miles each with a zeal and eagerness to tackle whatever I put before them. Without those relationships I would have looked at the VehiCROSS with passing interest and continued to collect FIATs and Ghias, never knowing the joy of ending up like this...
Anyway, just thought I'd share a VX touchy-feely moment!
