    Hub nut retainer screws

The Fastenal # for allen head replacement screws is 1139939.

    http://www.fastenal.com/web/products...=1&searchBox=1

These are the phillips head screws that everyone has a problem with when repacking their front bearings. The head strips out.

I got a box of 100. The next 15 people who send me a PM can get a free set.

BTW, 8-32x3/8 look like they work but they don't. They'll start to thread in but bind up before you can get them tight.

I usually put my impact on the lowest power setting, and rig up a screw driver head on the drill and lean into it and it usually breaks these loose. Before I had the impact though I would put a screwdriver in the screw and whack it with a hammer a few times and that sometimes worked.

That's about the only way to get'm out. I didn't want to put them back in with the stripped heads tho. Allen head screws have to be Mo'Bettah. If you strip it, at least you've got a pre-drilled hole for the easy out.

Unfortunately, mine were pre-stripped for me. Don't know if it was the previous owner or the shop that did the axle swap.

BTW, they have loctite on the threads so make sure you put some on when you replace them.

After working on metric bikes for too many years, I have several hand impact drivers. (The kind where you put the appropriate bit in the business end and smack the other end with a hammer!) Works every time and they're cheap. Phillips head screws were always a real bastard on those metric bikes and I've discovered they're no different on the VX! It even got the license plate light lens screws out without buggering them up...

X2...that was always the first mod on any new Jap bike back in the day...replace all possible phillips screws with socket head cap screws...

FWIW, the first time I did my bearings, I replaced the little stock screws, with little stainless screws (harder) no problem since...
