Wrench Oil consumption - new info?

Was digging around the web & found this, I don't recall ever seeing it before but I ain't gett'n any younger neither...

This is also a fun site to snoop around in (yes, it's been posted before)

    They're claiming 320 "hose power" out of a S/C'd 6VE1...

Also a great place to shop if you've ever wanted to mount one-a-them there aereoplane propeller gizmos on the front of your VX, for added cooling & .01 % better throttle response...

Oh wait, that would involve spinning the engine around 180 deg ...too much work...

It really is a shame the S/C isn't available any more. Good info about the oil consumption. I wonder where one could get the ROM to flash our computers with.

OK, so they are not reflashing the stock computer, but reflashing this aftermarket ECU which they have in place of the stock ECU?

Thanx Dubster, good info to know about what is considered our "normal oil consumption rate". Sounds like Isuzu Corporation just wants to C.Y.A. themselves. I see the "Build Dates" on the service bulletin are related to engines built in the year of "2003", so that is after our production years of the VX.

That is an Australian service bulletin for Isuzus sold here rebadged as "Holden" Rodeos (pick ups) and Jackaroos (Troopers).
    The RA/RB series goes from 1997 - 2003 IIRC.

Most of those engines (6VD1) are a single overhead cam model putting out about 190 HP.
But the oil consumption figures would still be relevant to the US engines.

The bulletin reads 6VE1, so its entirely relative to our engines.

    It also states that
"The sump and dipstick design is such that for a vehicle under normal driving conditions, customers may need to add oil before the next service"

Thats seems a tad lame for one of these early model gas-o-line 'engines' manufactured at the turn of the century. 1.5 Quarts per 3000 Miles... But we know that part already. We must be getting oil loss through the dipstick?

After further research, I found this from an australian forum

The fix is new motor, new cats, and new ECU programming to change EGR behavior under the above conditions.

    And yes, Rodeos are crap.

The EGR pickup is close to the cat???

    Thumbs up

This is very interesting info !

I guess isuzu is finally admitting fault on their poorly designed engines, especially our 3.5L engines.

Next year i'll be looking into rebuilding my engine and all this info will be helpfully when time comes.
    Dakar was just the begining.
