    Brake Light Modulator

I see that a lot yall have a 3rd brake light modulator, but no one says what brand/model it is. I can't find any old forums mentioning it and I'm not sure what exactly I'd be trying to google or find on ebay/amazon.

Any suggestions as to what to buy for this? Is it plug and play, or do you have to cut and splice a few wires?

Thanks Riff Raff! But can I still buy a Tone Modulator somewhere? Will any modulator for motorcycles work with this? Is there a circuit schematic for Tone's somewhere that I can make it myself?

I've had the Tone Monday brake light flasher for 9-10 years and I still love it. You can only get his version if someone sells, so forget that.

I just Googled "third brake light flasher" and a ton of stuff came up. Just make sure the one you get can be adjusted two ways like Tone's. For the duration of the flashing and the speed of the flashing. I have mine set for the shortest duration and a medium flashing speed. I think it flashes 7-8 times in ~3 seconds.

Don't get one that flashes constantly the whole time you're on the brake pedal. That would be ultra annoying to other drivers and not cool at all.

I almost forgot I have an old video of my third brake light flashing in action on my website. Same vid, two file types-

Of all that I have googled, Riff Raff, I have not seen that site before. I like it alot. I think I will just make my own then if it is that simple. I'm going to school for Electrical Engineering and I am on Co-op at Kohler Engines. I just have barely began any of my EE courses yet. I don't get Circuits and Electronics until January when I go back to school. But this definitely looks like a simple project. I'll consult my mentor at work and see if maybe he could help me design this and make it. Perhaps even print and order the PCB for it and could save it for later copies if anyone else on here ever wanted one. It'd be dirt cheap, I'm sure.

So you would only need the flasher/strober part only?

I have wanted to do this as well.

A friend liked my Tone flasher, but wouldn't pay the price so he bought one of those that flash constantly.... he was getting out of his car one day and found himself surrounded by the police. someone called in and thought he had kidnapped someone and they were in his trunk flashing for help

Any of you guys happen to know the current draw that the LED brake light bar pulls? I need to know in order to design a circuit for a flasher, but I don't really wanna go split any wires to find out. Maybe someone has seen a datasheet for it or knows if one even exits?

"DeerMagnet" is the grand wizard when it comes to VX Data (of any kind).

I've never seen any info relating to current draw. I just checked the '99 VX electrical manual and it doesn't have anything about current draw.

It has 84 LEDs arranged in 21 parallel circuits; each parallel circuit is made up of 4 LEDs and 2 resistors in series. Plus noise suppression filters. If that helps any.

If you Follow the link I already posted you will see that member Taylor Richie already made this item for our VX's so any questions should go to him on the subject.
