NO..there is a product out there that is designed for just this application.
I've used it on my fender marker lenses & it works great.
I'll post the name & brand when I get home later this afternoon.
I wouldn't use just run-of-the-mill hardware store black paint, although it may work. I'd use hobby-grade paint such as "Tamiya Color" for polycarbonate. I've had great success with thier Gun Metal Grey #PS-23 on lenses for other projects as well as RC bodies for nitro cars and trucks. Tamiya makes about a bazillion different colors with varying opaqueness for the hobby market, so almost any local hobby store should stock it. Pick out your color and do a little test work on a piece of glass to get your desired effect. Best of luck and have fun!! Just remember to start out with light coats, until you get the shade you want. The cap color is what you would get with several full wet coats so you can easily adjust your color palette with lighter coats!
Vixer Fixer
Or better yet, what Ldub said!!
You guys rock! Just saved me 100 big ones.
so, be sure you want it.
Warning: Once applied to plastic lens, SP999 is not able to be satisfactorily removed.
Greetings, Earthling. We come in peace... Never mind "Paris to Dakar", the VehiCROSS looks ready for the Martian desert.
I sprayed my amber lenses with "lense tint" from autozone. Like Ldub's link, its made for this exact application to allow light to show through the lense. Check my gallery if you want to see pics.
FYI, sand the lenses down with 1500 grit sand paper prior to spraying them and they'll turn out great
Another thing I just remembered about the VHT stuff...
It's designed for tail lights, so it adds a reddish cast to yellow lenses.
Making them appear reddish/orange when done...
I never sanded mine, just cleaned em up real good with 91% rubbing alcohol...no problem for over a year.
