I fail to be convinced but I'll let it go.
Don't need no 'lightning bolt down my shorts' moment ... again!

Put a smiley after you say that Bub.
As V said I think it's more or less just a style/coolness factor.
I remember seeing a commercial for tail lights that come on quicker and providing a safety enhancement (I think it was Audi back in the mid 90's). I remember thinking at the time that it was a really good sales pitch but that it probably wouldn't make any difference in the real world.
Ranks right up there with Mercedes advertising that they now (as of last year) sell cars with self drying brakes which decrease stopping distance. Again, a really good sales pitch on something that's been available for 30 years ... they're called disc brakes (pads always in contact with rotor = self drying).
I'm not trying to convince anyone to avoid doing the mod, just understand that the benefits are questionable.
Nah - Hidden hitch, seat sliders, & diff drops were all worth their weight in steel.
Aww go easy, man. Not all of us have enough style to rock the killer offset. Fortunately, the VX offers lots of other aesthetic options to pursue.
Actually, come to think of it, and more seriously, the fact that our rigs are so rare means that very few people even know what a "reference" model should look like. This keeps people asking "what the heck IS that," instead of saying "I can't believe he did that to his car!" I'd reckon an extremely high percentage of VXs remaining are truly one of a kind in some fashion or another. Pretty cool.
Say, you got any more of those seat slider extensions lyin' around?

Yup
Welder Guy is sitting pretty (relatively speaking of course) on 3 sets.
"And then there were two."
Thanks Tom. PM inbound.
