HELP - will 285/65 fit on stock?

Hey guys - I am looking at putting Nitto Trail Grapplers 285/65 on my stock rims (18s) and the guy at Discount Tire just scared me. He said I cannot put them on a 18X7 rim. Is that TRUE?!?!?! Will they fit on my stockers until I find different rims or do I need to get looking for new rims right NOW???

    HELP!!

EDIT - I do plan on lifting the VX 2" first!!

I have the Nitto Terra Grapplers in 285/60-18.......

    Are you sure they're "65" ?
    ??

The 285/60-18s require only a small 4" triangle to be cut off the front OUTER corner of cladding.

And yes, the 285/60-18 NTGs say minimum wheel width is 8" and our 18" OEMs are 7"...but mine haven't fallen off yet..

Thanks Sue! I would think if your 285s fit then so would mine. I am going Trail Graps and they are 285/65. I know they will require some cladding cutting and wheel well hammering, but I am excited about it. I just haven't found any rims that I like yet so I was going to keep the stock ones for a while. If I can't use the stock ones with these tires though, then I had better figure something out QUICK because I already bought the tires!!!

Anyone else run 285/65s on their stock rims??

Hold on to the tires until you get your rims and have them put on then.

JeeperKate--- YES, your new 285/65R18 (32.85" O.D.) Nitto Trail Grapplers will fit onto your OEM 18x7 rims with no problems. 285 series width is the widest series tire that can still be "squeezed" onto a 7" wide rim. Some commercial name-brand tire shops strictly go by the manufactures recommendation to CYA, so find a local Mom-n-Pop type tire shop to get them mounted/balanced.

Being a 32.85" O.D., you will have to lift your VX slightly; perhaps with some minor TB cranks and 1" spring spacers on the rear springs should suffice nicely. Only lift as high that is needed to safely clear the tires from rubbing. Lifting too high may cause increased CV wear and other unwanted stress's on the suspension.

To my knowledge, YOU will be the only one here on VX.Info that has put 285/65R18 on the OEM 18x7 rim (most of us go for the stubbier 285/60R18 size in 31.3" O.D.). However, they will still fit but may require a small bit of lifting due to their taller O.D. of 32.85".

Post some pictures when you get them on; we'd love to see the new look.

oh, forgot to mention, mine is not lifted, in case that figures into your fitment calculations/thoughts.
