Oh hell, they've had flying cars for years...
Vixer Fixer
Lmfao!!!
I remember one in popular science at least 20yrs ago. Maybe 30.
Here's a pic of the skycar I remember....
2001 Ebony VX and 1989 Custom 383 Corvette
Actually I was thinking of the Taylor Aerocar...
back when i first started working in a machine shop (late 80's early 90's), i built parts for an engineer from m.i.t. who had a patent and was building one. it was a box wing design that was 8ft wd to adhere to d.o.t. standards. that way it could be used as a car that could be driven on the hwy.
it also was amphibious. he designed it so you could take off and land in the water. i even built parts for a small folding mini-bike that was stored on said craft. i worked on & off with him for several years, but moved to another job 5-6 yrs later. never heard if he finished it.
That's no car. That's just a gyrocopter that goes fast on the ground.
I mean, its cool, but it is a far cry from a Blade Runner Spinner.
Bart
Was he young? I mean REALLY young? The guy who started this company http://www.terrafugia.com/index.html is an MIT engineer - but he would have been about 18 in the late 80s...
Looks like the Transition gets better gas mileage flying at 105mph than a VX does driving at 75mph. They claim 35mpg on the road, 21 mpg in the air. And it's got room for golf clubs. Whohooo! Doesn't appear to have even one cupholder though, so I'm sticking with the VX for now...
