DANG! Hope the visor was down on the driver's helmet when that happened!
I've led a sheltered life. The only time I've seen deer on the road was on my way to Moab this year. I slowed down and watched two cross in the distance and the third one made me come to a stop as it took it's sweet time crossing the road. (I think it was texting. )
a good friend of my dad caught an antler through his hand one time pushing his daughter's head out of the way when they hit a deer - scarey stuff it happens a lot here in southern indiana and the problem seems to be getting worse every year
My dad never understood why I 'needed' HID's and aux hella driving lights till he smashed a deer. Guess what he bought the next week for all of his vehicles

His visor was up , but he got his hand up just before hit.
Everyone in my family has hit a deer within a mile or two of our house, only one had totaled a car though. There are tons of them out here. My dad hit one in a Mack dumptruck one time though. Sent the deer flying and barely made a dent in the grille of the truck.
In all my years of bodywork, I have worked on many cars that hit deer. 2 of which were fatal to the driver. Deer through the windshield and quite literally through the driver. Pretty ugly mess that needs some heavy cleaning up. We had a special company that would come in to clean them before we would start work that did crime scene cleanups. We always knew when a flatbed was rolling in with a tarp strapped over the vehicle if it was gonna be "one of those" jobs again.
