Question Interest in NC Outer Banks Meet?

After getting to see a bunch of the Midwest and West Coast members in Moab I thought it would be cool to do an East Coast / Southeast meet sometime later this year. I love going driving in the Outer Banks, it's pretty mild offroading with a highly rewarding view. Here's a map of all the places to hit the beach, along with a few pictures, some from the web, others from my gallery. Thinking maybe the weekend of the 15th or 29th of September, or maybe the 6th of October. That's the offseason in the Outer Banks, so nice cheap hotels are easy to come by.

Reply back to this thread if you're interested and I'll post a meet thread if enough folks are interested (heck even just 3-4 would be fine with me).

Map of locations to go out on the beach. My personal fave is the very end of Hatteras Island.

Cape Point below the Hatteras lighthouse is nice too:

    Wild horses on the beach:

A few pics from my trips, forgive the fact that they're pretty VX centric.

Ash, you know that you have to have a beach permit now to drive on the beach at $150 for the year. They just started it this year.

It's $120 for the year or $50 for a week (obviously this is the one others will want). The $120 is worth it for me as many times as I go down there in a given year. The fine is what's $150. I have an annual pass and 3 open seats if anyone just wants to ride along.

Wow, so I guess I'll take the deafening silence as a big "no."

I bet "boy" would have a blast driving on the sand. Phenomenal picture opportunities too.

Yah - should have the Samurai runnin by then so you could put us down for 3 peeps in 2 vehicles.

We should contact SomeBeach too. Mebbe he can steal his VX back from his son for the weekend (always good to have the Po-Po along as a guest to keep us legal).

Sounds cool! I may be able to do it. I've been there a couple times when driving on the beach was still free .

Just got back from the OBX yesterday and I'm pumped to go back again. The park service opened Cape Point for driving just last week so I got a chance to check that out along with several other beaches, lots of cool places to take some group shots, grill out on the beach, etc.

The last two times I've stayed at this place (link is to the rates but you can click around for room pics):

    http://www.outerbanksmotel.com/Site_...ges/rates.html

It's an inexpensive motel that offers regular rooms as well as condos and cottages all around a shared parking area (similar to "The Stoop"). Location is great, it's on the north shore of Cape Hatteras pretty centrally located between the various off road vehicle (ORV) beaches and attractions. Rates are pretty reasonable too; if we chose to stay here for a September or October meet we'd be paying the prices in the PreSummer/Fall column.

Tom did you reach out to SomeBeach? (I'll have to remember to bump this when you get back from vacation.) Do you guys have a preference between 9/15, 9/29, and 10/7? Hotel prices will be the same between all those dates, but obviously it'll be colder.

    And anybody else interested?

    Ash,

Still interested. I'll have to check with Wifey to see when her family is coming down in September for a visit.

Haven't reached out to SomeBeach yet. I'll have to dig through my email archives to find his addy.

    Tom

    EDIT: email to SomeBeach sent.

Updates Tom? Anybody else interested? My work calendar is about to fill up pretty quick with likely trips to DC, Northern California, Hampton Roads, etc. I still have some flexibility to rope off dates but not for much longer.

    Never heard back from SomeBeach.

Bren & I are still interested. As a matter of fact, we are trying to plan a weekend get-away right now. I'll keep you posted.

Cool. Looks like 29 Sep or 6 Oct are definitely better for me, I'll probably be in California around the 15th.

Let me know when, we can catch a bite to eat on your way down perhaps. I doing Uwharrie weekend of 25OCT, so probably a no-go for the OBX trip. But it would be nice to see a few folks. Buddy saw an astral down in VB yesterday, bone stock, not sure whose it is?

We may be running around Williamsburg area next weekend with the VX. I'll let Y'all know details when we firm it up.

Ash - Beginning of Oct would prolly work better for us rather than end of Sep. It's hard for Bren to take time off from work at end of month.
