Has anyone found a better rear seat "fold-up" mechanism?

I don't care for the strap method...as the seat always has some fore/aft movement [when strapped]. Has anyone devised a better hold-down for this.

BTW...I know the rear seat will come out. So, don't post about that option.

    Thanks!

The strap has always worked fine for me (I tighten it down pretty good though).

You could always put a rolled up blanket or sumpn under the headrest(s). That should give the strap more to pull against.

    Here was my solution:

I basically leave the seats in place, but folded flat. I have a cargo box in the back that will flush up with 2 other boards that come together to form a truck bed of sorts.

The beauty of the 2 boards is that I can remove one and leave a car seat in.

    ....Like this...

That's what drives me nuts. And, I'd like to avoid carrying a blanket all year round. Gotta like a solution like the one JAMAS posted! You probably end up with a bigger/longer flat area. Would be cool if all the boards were hinged....maybe a 2-pc board on the seats? Hmmmm...

Have to make it where I didn't get rid of one noise...just to gain another.

    Thanks!

The boards on the seats are currently 2 pieces. There are a total of 4 separate pieces. 2 boxes that look like 1, and 2 boards that look like 1. The configurations are endless. Alright, maybe not endless, but there are several. I have been fighting with the best way to join the everything together. Currently, there is a bit of velcro on all the edges that line up nicely. I wanted to keep the surface as flat as possible without latches or hinges. My latest thought is a peg system. There are "legs" in the front that support the weight since it extends over the seat and foot well. I like the solution a lot because it gives me a ton more space. Even more flat space than if you remove the seats completely. My back seat area is silent.

You said a mouth full right there Dude...

IMO, the Jackson family currently has enough on their plate, without you having one of these wedged into the back somewhere...

It'd prolly make MORE noise than you are currently experiencing.

Don't forget to bring a towel...

It took me a while before I realized who was in the picture, the nature of your message and then laughed beer out my nose!

Maybe replace the oem strap with a mini ratchet strap. Then you'll be able to "sinch" the folded seat down.

I was going to suggest the rubber hood latch from a Jeep - but figured that I'd be banned from the forum forever.

I think some of the 2000 and 2001 models have an adjustable strap.

    Nice, I didn't know that.

Seems like that's an easy solution.

I used to have the adjustable strap when I had my VX, but it ripped out of the seat. I highly suggest to not do too much heavy wheeling with the straps holding the seat up.
