    Newest car obsession

Well, just wondering if anyone on here would like to join in a conversation about DSM's. I know from reading numerous threads on this forum that tom4bren has had a few Eclipses. I'm looking at getting a 2G DSM. Hopefully it'll be turbo and AWD. I'd like an Eagle talon, but i'll take an Eclipse if the right one comes my way. Anyone think it'll take me two years to locate one like it did for my VX? I started saving up some cash a few weeks ago for this future purchase. Probably gonna need about $5k (about $3500 for the car and about $1500 to get a bunch of maintenance done to it). I have the most understanding wife. LOL! I drive her crazy with all of these cars.

People gotta have their hobbies, men maybe more so then women. What's that old saying, idle hands are the Devils playground? Just go with it, especially if the misses doesn't have a problem with it! Just my two cents Brandon...Oh, and by the way, think turbo AWD!

My first car was a '97 Eagle Talon. I loved that car. My second car was my VX. Talons are fairly rare now..

I had a 93 Talon Tsi (AWD) with a 91 6-bolt swap and a MAPerformance shortblock. Fun car if you don't mind working on it every other night... I learned a lot though. Just curious, why are you interested in a 2G? just because they look better?

    Thank you.

On the headlight retrofit forum, I never understood one of the member's sig. I still don't really get it but at least I know he's talking about the car.

Its cuz its a DSM.... lol

Its kind of understood by owners that if you have one you're going to have to work on it. a lot. That being said, I'm not saying don't get one, since they're super fun and pretty cheap to buy/work on. I've thought about getting another at some point and building it up, but have other cars higher on my list.

Also, as an FYI for those who aren't aware, Talons, Eclipses, and plymouth lasers were all DSM's and pretty much the same and have a lot of interchangeable parts.

You're right. It's like any other car though. Most have problems to begin with without even taking into account the fact that most people do zero maintenance on their cars. Hell, my VX could easily take $2,000 in new parts. Can I do it all at once? No. Some cars will go on for 300,000 miles and some will die at 100,000. I believe it depends more on the driver and owner and about how the cars are driven. Sure, if a car is used to race everyday, they will break parts and need more service. I'm not buying one of these for a racecar, i'm buying it to just cruise around town. Knock on wood, hopefully all my cars will make it closer to the 300,000 and above marker.

I looked at eclipses for a couple years and never found what I wanted in my price range. Then ended up spending a bunch more then I planned and got a volvo wagon LOL. At least its turbo.

Exactly. Thats the problem with buying used cars. You should see the mess I just discovered on my "new" volvo. The oil was pretty dark and inside the oil fill cap was pretty dirty so I had the oil changed. It has a cartrige filter which is a PITA to change. The filter was collapsed and pure sludge. I dont think its ever been changed. I'm hoping the oil its self was at least changed once in a while and they just didnt do the filter. Really dont want to deal with a sludged up engine with as much as I paid for this thing.
