Replacement tires on 18" stock rims

Hello all,

I'm coming up on 30K on my Ebony, and being Northeast-based, I am starting to wonder if I should replace the tires before we get any closer to winter. Based on the wealth of VX experience out there, can I get the input of my fellow VX'ers on the following:

(A) What is the biggest size tire you can put on the stock 18" rims? (I love the look of Wormgod's VX, but not ready to invest in tires AND aftermarket rims)
(B) Are there any sacrifices to be made regarding handling, MPG, and tire noise vs. the stock tires? I drive over 100 miles worth of highway a day, and have never taken my Ebony off-road.
(C) What brands/prices/resources should I be looking at?

Would appreciate any direction my fellow VX'ers can offer....pics of those VX's that have made the switch would be great. Thanks in advance.
