Does anyone have the hotshot intake on a non supercharged VX?
If so please tell me all about it.
did you but the trooper hotshot and cut it to fit?
are you using the chrome(eye candy one) or the ceramic?
Any pictures available?

I used to... but now I have S/C, and am hacking it up to fit.
The unit was a bitch to get as the guy Don was working with hotshots to fabricated it for his trooper, and assumed that it would fit the VX... but it did not clear the hood....
Was a nice looking unit, the butt dyno felt it little, no dyno #'s though.
I also had a Injen intake before and before that the Calmini filter, they all felt about the same.

Cyrk, thanks for the help.
I spoke to hotshot in CA today and he said he'd need an order of at least 10 intakes for it to be worth his time to fabricate a correct one for our VX's.
I spoke to injen today and they were not any help telling me which intake might be adapted to fit the VX.
K&N lists just the drop in the box air filter on their web site only
The calmini looks ok in your picture.
Any suggestions for me on a stock motor, I really liked the look of the hotshot for the eye candy effect...even an injen would look nice right? From your experience what would you recommend at this point for a stock motor intake?
I'm lQQking to do 2 mods...my intake and exhaust....I assume the PV is best there, from the cat back...right? Would you just cut it into the pipe there of fabricate new pipe to go with it, what diameter? what type of tip for a nice sound?
I'm not so concerned with how fast I go, but want to look and sound real goooood!!!!
Any help would be appreciated!!
Thanks
The Ingen Intake was for a 97 passport. It had to be rotated to fit. Problem with it is that it lays on the top radiator hose and transferred a lot of heat.
The Hot Shot intake solved this problem by looping up over the radiator hose. It was made for the Trooper, though, which has more hood clearance, so the Hot Shot had to be cut and recoupled, rotated to clear.
I have the chrome version in my gallery. I bought one in the original order and cut it myself using a sawsall. Performance gains with the intake alone were neglible (butt dyno), however paired with the PV Catback, was taken into a different class. There's definite improvement in conjunction with a higher performing exhaust.
Of course this is all subjective. I did not dyno before or after, only know what it feels like from a driver's experience.
I think John needs a minimum order before he'll fabricate more catbacks, so buying the PV and having it welded in would be your only choice (unless you can both talk him into making more and talk a bunch of people into ordering). Make sure you put a different diameter tip on as well, as the extra sound is a bit too agressive (my opinion).
The intake is mostly eye candy, while the PV change out will definitely get you better sound and performance.

I "MAY" sell mine here soon. I am still debating the S/C buy. Of course, I am also looking at the WRX STi so who knows where I will end up down the road.
PS- Yes, I will be keeping the VX if I make the WRX buy.

I'd be interested in your Hotshot, I assume its the trooper one, cut and booted to change the angle ?
When might you know by?
I'd like the first shot at it!!!

Did Hotshot give a ballpark price? I may be interested in a custom intake from Hotshot. There, now all you need is 8 more....
I raced a WRX the other day for 2 lights (about 1/6 of a mile) before we let off (around 70mph), and he only had me by 2 car lengths, just to tell you how much the SC does for you. Makes me want the 5lb pully to see what it can do.Originally posted by WormGod

If someone would fab a nice looking intake for the SC I'm in!
What are you other SC owners using anyway? I'm still running stock, might pull the elbow tonight now that I think about it.

2000 Ironman Project LS-1 VX... very slow progress but someday....... ohhhhh someday......
Was the WRX a STi or was it just a regular WRX. Theres a big difference between the WRX and the STi...the WRX being 227hp and the STi being 300....also the 0-60 is about 1/2 a second differnence not to mention the 1/4 mile...But if up raced an STi and was only 2 car lenghts behind....time for me to save up and get a SC instead of a RX-7.

It most likely was a WRX, of course I don't even know how to tell the difference. All I know is it was yellow and said WRX on the back left, would it say STI instead or would it be small writing underneath WRX? I'd put my money on the plain WRX
Yea its probably a WRX.....the STi looks like the newest model called GD7. It lost the bug eye headlights and has a more aggresive hood scope.

As far as I know, and I may be totally incorrect, but the STi only comes in blue, white, silver, and black with gold or silver 17" BBS wheels? If it was yellow, it was almost definitely was a WRX (no STi)... that said, they are definitely quick little cars. Much props to them!
Couldnt tell ya man. I am still in mass debate. There is a LOT on my plate this winter and money will be a huge factor in determining EVERYTHING I do. Do I buy a new house? Do I get a new car? Do I go S/C? Do I do this , that, and/or the third?Originally posted by drdavidr4u

Too much to worry about right now, but trust me, I will post here as soon as I decide.
