Shop price for timing belt change.

    Hey everyone,

I would want to get the timing belt changed soon if I do pick up a VX and was wondering if anyone could tell me how much a shop would charge to do this. I am in MA and was also wondering if there are and shops here that you would recommend. Thanks for the help, (I tried searching but I could not find any prices from shops).

I'm not near MA, but I got a price from the old Isuzu dealership here in Denver. They have a great mech that has been there for a long time.

With water pump and everything it was about $900.

    Hope this helps.

just make sure they do not screw it up. tell them to line it all up before removing the belt and do not turn anything while the belt is off. the easy way to do it is to mark crank and and cam pulleys and belt. before pulling belt. remove belt count the teeth between marks and mark the new belt the same as the old. install new belt making sure the marks are lined up . there is no question to whether the belt is lined up or not if you do it this way. it does not even matter whether the engine is on TDC of #2 cylinder or not. but I would make sure it is so you do not have to fight with the cams trying to turn. again very simple and fail safe.

If you buy an oem belt from Isuzu it will have all the alignment markings on it. I used all oem parts for mine since they seem to last longer (I had 145000 miles on mine). I spent nearly $500 just for parts, did the labor myself. Not an overly hard job if you have a weekend, basic tools and it's easier with a second pair of hands.

Just had my timing belt, thermostat, water pump, and all intake gaskets replaced for a total of $300 including parts and labor.

All parts were from using coupon codes at Advanced Auto. Labor was only $180
