    torque converter bolts HELP!!!

    i have been working on gettin my engine out and have hit a snag...i can not seem to get a wrench on the torque converter bolts,off set or regular box end..
    i cant even tell what size they are 16 seems too small 17 seems too big???
    im loosing my mind here!!!!
    anyone every get these off on a transmission or engine removal??please let me know how you did it

    I had a wrench that was welded with an off set and it worked great, it was a 17mm, you are welcome to use but cann't get it to you till 2morrow, have too much to do today after work. hit me up with PM.

    Would one of those flex head ratchets work?

    no not enuff clearence and the bolt head is real close to the rim of the fly wheel??

    Special tool

    I also had to have a friend make a special tool. IIRC is was the end of a socket cut in half and welded to a openend/boxend wrench. Don't recall the size, but 17mm sounds right. If Giz can't get it to you let me know and I will drop mine in the mail.

    If I remember correctly I pulled the starter bolts out and was able to used a ratchet with an extra long extension. This made it quite easy to remove the bolts.
    There's no 'I' in denial.

    giz and hugh thanx for the offer to mail me ur wrenches to help me out but before i did that i bought a 3 dollar 17 mm wrench

    cut the box end off and welded it to the shaft of the wrench..
    perfect off set!!!


    had the torque converter bolts off in under 5 min!!!

    Now that's my kind of Enginerd-ing!!!

    Sounds like the time I bought a $30 spanner socket ... & took a grinder to it before I used it for the first time. BTW, did I mention that I have the perfect tool to tighten your hub nuts to set the pre-load on the front bearings if anyone ever needs to borrow it.
