    Need help with oil leak

I have not yet taken my VX to a mechanic, and I haven't dug very deep into the problem so I completely understand if no one can help yet.

...But I am going to try anyway.

Crawling under, I can see where its pooling into a drop and I think its happening roughly in that area. What I need help with is what part is it I am looking at.

I found a picture of someone elses undercarriage (insert grade school giggle here) and circled where I see the drip pooling up.

    Any thoughts?

--->its pooling into a drip at the very bottom of that silver half crescent looking part<---

    Mode selector switch???

If so, what above that would be leaking oil....very slowly?

Are you sure it's oil? I might be transmission fluid leaking out at the mode selector switch area. I thought a few others had a fluid leak in that area. Hopefully they will chime in soon.

Sounds like the mode/gear selector switch seal may indeed be the problem.

Yup, the shaft that goes from the trans into the switch has a rubber seal that with time and enough heat-cycles deteriorates and starts leaking. My Proton started to weap fluid from that seal and I sprayed it with CRC Brakleen and the seal swelled and stop leaking. It's been a year now but I know she's gonna need servicing at some point...

You can slow this down to a crawl just by tightening down the 10mm mounting bolt on the side of the switch.

    Will do.

my symptoms match up very closely with the description in the thread linked below:
    http://www.vehicross.info/forums/sho...switch%22+leak

so I am a little more confident that, that is the problem.
