Recommendations for trails near Pueblo, CO?

Next week I'll be in Pueblo for training and I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations for trails in the neighborhood. It's coming up fast, yet my plans are still somewhat fluid. I do know that going to drive the VX instead of going through the hassle of flying. (Hey it's only a 10 hour drive!)

A coworker may also travel with her family in their 4WD Avalanche and we're wondering about trails that aren't crazy tough and would accommodate both vehicles. She may have to bail out due to some personal issues so I could use some advice on trails that would be "beyond pavement" but still "safe" if I have to go it alone.

Moncha & I have been in contact and hope to meet up if our schedules work out. If anybody else is in the area and would like to meet up, send me a PM and I can give you more details on my schedule.

The Great Sand Dunes are close by and Medano Pass looks interesting.

Hey, that does look interesting! And, by the way, I'm not locked in to the Pueblo area. After I posted I started looking at sites around Colorado Springs so I'm flexible about that.

Colorado Springs is a better area to look for 4x4 trails, I'm not sure about Pueblo.

Check out Trail Damage. I use it to find new trails near me, it rates everything and gives detailed info so you know what you're getting into.

Rick, I'm glad you're meeting up with the godfather, Scott. I really enjoyed meeting him, Laura, and a few other CO members a couple of years ago. Having additionally met you, vt_maverick Ashley, and tom4bren Tom, it helps picture faces when reading posts. My haj is still Moab. Maybe next year, to coincide with my first retirement. Take care, Bren.

I'd avoid Colorado Springs since the Black Forest fire has really taken its toll. The destroyed home count is over 360 now. Prayers to those folks. It was really smoky here in Denver yesterday but the winds picked up later and cleared things up. The wind is good for the air but even worse for the fires.
