    Wiring / Sensor Help

I have 2 wiring connector issues.

The 1st one is a connector hanging near the oil filter. This is a Yellow Green wire. See Pics 1-3.

The 2nd one is s Green Yellow that comes out of a loom and clips to a single connector and then turns into a gray wire. I just found it hanging the other day. Everything still seems to work.
On the drivers side near the Power Steering Pump. See Pics 4-7 in this post.

The First 3 pics are of the connector located near the oil filter.

The Next Pics are of the Green/Yellow wire.

Hey Shan, long time! Glad to see you are still rolling the VX.
Don't have an answer for your question. I'd just pull the wire in all directions and see if anything looks like it needs a mate.
If no answers I'll try to remember to pop my hood and tske a look. Have only put 10 miles on mine over the oast 3 weeks

This will sound backwards given the colors you described, but there's a lone grey wire shown in picture # 8 in the Electrical Troubleshooting Manual by the oil filter that's marked as "Not Used"...but you're saying the wire you have in that location is the Yellow/Green one?

And in picture # 14, there's a grey wire shown coming out of a loom towards the top/back/driver's-side of the power steering pump, but I can't tell if it's actually plugged into anything. You might try looking at that portion of your power steering pump to see if there's a connector with nothing plugged into it.

    Hi Triathlete.
Good to see you are also still here. Any outings planned?

Thanks for the info on the plug near the oil filer. I will ignore that one.
We spent hours on Sunday trying to see what this wire would have plugged into . Took the driver’s side tire off, jacked the VX up and nada.
If you lift the skirt up on the driver’s side wheel well you can see 2 wires that run along the top of the AC compressor and go to a sensor.
Those 2 wires run into the same loom but the one in question is in the same loom just a few inches up.

Here is another pic of the wire.

The gray wire actually has black heat wrap around it.

Not saying it is the case with the VX, but manufactures will make up wiring looms to fit different models they make but not use all of the connectors becasue that vehicle doesn't have that particular component installed on that model vehicle.

I figure that is the case for the connector near the oil filter but the Green/Yellow wire is frayed at the end.

    Charon,

I'm going to shoot in the dark here, since I haven't looked at my VX, but when I had the engine replaced the shop said that there was a broken wire at the power steering pump (I think that's where it was). They said that due to the corrosion on the broken wire end, it had probably been broken for a while. They ended up tracing it back to a sensor on or around the power steering pump, and it was tough to find since the wire had broken off right at the sensor itself. Apparently, the sensor monitors the engine speed and the power steering pump. Since the pump puts a draw on the engine when it is working the sensor senses when the steering is being used (thus using the pump) and will bump up the engine RPM's if they aren't high enough already, to make up for the load that the power steering pump adds to the engine.

As an example, if you are in park with the engine idling, and you turn the steering wheel, the engine RPM's should jump up a bit since the power steering pump is in use. If you are going down the highway, or cruising around a parking lot and you turn the wheel, chances are the RPM's won't bump up due to the fact that the engine is probably already at a high enough RPM.

The shop ordered a new sensor (to the tune of +/-$200) and installed it when they installed the new engine. To tell you the truth I haven't noticed a difference with the new sensor. Due to the corrosion on the raw wire that sensor probably wasn't working for a while and I don't think that it has done any damage to the pump. I did multiple trips to Moab, where there is a lot of low speed, low RPM turning, and I didn't find it hard to get around.

I will try and remember to take a look at my VX when I get home and see if I can locate that power steering sensor and see what color wire is coming out of it.

    MSHardeman,

That could be it. I will take another look tonight.
    Thanks for checking.

Shan, no trips lately. Been catching up on lots of long overdue maintanence. This winter when it cools down a bit I still need to change a power steering hose and the control arm bushings...then throw some 33s on it! Then I'll be ready to wheel again. Hoping to make the trip to Moab next May (thats a trip you should plan on...it is AWESOME!).
