Our transfer cases don't have a "2Hi" option, they only have the "HIGH" and "4L" options. I suspect you now have either front wheel drive or rear wheel drive when in the "HIGH" range as you have indeed broken the final drive in the transfer case now sending all the drive force to either the front or rear driveshaft. I would probably not drive it in this condition as you may completely grenade the transfer case somewhere out on the highway. Seeing as how you already have a spare, I'd put it in and then crack open the old transfer to see just where things went boom...

Hmmm, if it wasn't so much labor, a permanent 2hi would be awesome! Probably not a bad idea to clear out the busted chain though, if you are in 4 lo and bouncing around, it would suck if that chain got caught in the transfer case operable components, that would be catastrophic.
I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

I was thinking the same thing as Marlin. Those broken parts could end up getting into the moving parts and cause way more damage. Put in your spare and then as time and funds permit put a new chain in the broken one.

If you really like the 2wd, sell your spare t-case and swap in a 2wd-4hi-4lo t-case from a mid 90s trooper. Someone on the planet was just selling one for $50.
I replaced my T case and it does not require dropping the exhaust. I looked into the 90s trooper T case option and found the low range is roughly 2 to 1 reduction. Our TOD case is 3 to 1 so you would lose some of the low range. If I’m not mistaken you would get a neutral position with the non TOD case that would let you fat tow the car with no damage to the drive train. FYI I do have a spare TOD case if you need one. It is used but I’m not sure how used. I bought it at a wrecking yard then I found a new one on line and opted to buy the new one.
