Meguiar's Cladding Treatment Test

In preparation for Moab I decided to try a new (to me) cladding treatment that I ran across in AutoZone; Meguiar's Ultimate Black



I am a little embarrassed about how bad I let my cladding get over the long Colorado winter. After washing the dirt off it was very dry and ashy looking. It hasn't been this bad in a long time and I was a little worried about being able to bring it completely back to life.

I used a sponge applicator to swipe the Ultimate Black onto the cladding and it immediately soaked right into the cladding in a nice even coat. Overlapping swipes yielded a completely seamless uniform color on the cladding.



I'll report back on how it holds up to rain as it is supposed to rain most of the day tomorrow on the way to Moab (of course), and how it attracts (or doesn't) the fine red Moab dirt.

I still like Meguiar's grape jelly! Looks great and smells delicious. I'm looking forward to the wear test on this one though... since I recently bought a bottle ('cause you get what's available when you live on an island).

I used this when I first got my VX. Loved the look and it lasted fine I don't think you'll be happy with the dust collection aspect of this product.

I went from this to the Turtle Wax product, that I liked better, and now I am using the Meguiars spray on Mirror Glaze 40 vinyl and rubber cleaner and reconditioner. So far from all the products that I have used I like it the best. It has better color and almost no dust collection. I have washed the VX several time and it has been rainy here and it still looks great after about 2 months.

I had horrible streaking on mine after the first heavy rain. I had applied it a couple days earlier and kept it in the garage to soak in but it still ran. Thinking of ordering another round of Armordillo TS-1 since that's my favorite of everything I've tried.

During the four hour drive to Moab I think it stopped raining for about five minutes, and the rest if the time it was a torrential downpour. The Meguiar's Ultimate Black seemed to hold up well and I don't have any streaking. I haven't washed the dust and road grime off yet to see if the reason it isn't streaking is because it just got completely washed off, but the cladding still loos nice and dark so I would guess it's still there doing its job.

If Possible Have The Black Cladding Painted & Baked In A Professional Spray Booth With A Quart Of GATORBACK Paint And You Will NEVER Have To Put Any Kind Of Treatment On The Cladding Ever Again. Just Normal Washing !

Looks like Mothers has something new on the market. It's called Back-to-Black® Heavy Duty Trim Cleaner Kit. Wonder if you use it before using the Mothers trim restorer?
