    Unusual Overheating Issue

So, I'm no stranger to overheating issues. This is my first experience with my VX. I say its unusual because while its overheating it cools down at idle. The higher speed I travel and the more throttle I give the hotter it gets. If I let off the gas it drops a bit. And sometimes when I come to a stop it drops all the way back to normal. I am a very novice mechanic and need some help. Please!

You might trying checking the coolant level in both your coolant reservoir AND your radiator once the engine has reached normal operating temps and the thermostat is cycling.

Pop the cap on the reservoir first then use a rag when removing the radiator cap in case of hot coolant overflow. With the engine running and the thermostat open, the coolant level should be flowing just a little below the level of the radiator cap opening.

    Overheating

i had the same thing happen to me.
i figured out that my radiator was dirty, not on the inside but the outside. like the air flow was being restricted. i took it out and power washed it and the over heating problem was solved. this is an easy and free fix, minus the coolant.

Good call. At idle it would be the fan doing the cooling and not the airflow through the radiator at road speeds. Hopefully a good cleaning of the radiator fins is all that needs to be done.

I had those symptoms on my 93 RS Trooper (faster=hotter). I thought it was weird that it would stay cool in stop-and-go traffic but get hot at 70 mph. Tried some things, but what ultimately fixed it was a new radiator. When I pulled the old one, the fins just crumbled when I touched them. I bought a cheap replacement radiator online and it was cool as a cucumber ever since.

I had an overheating issue recently. The two things I changed was a new thermal fan and cleaning the EGR tube that is in the common chamber. Open your throttle body, the tube should be just behind it. Mine was completely clogged and the tube is about 3/8 of an inch in diameter.

    Wink

Mine is cool @ idle & @ 70 mph but heats up w/AC on in stop & go traffic or AC on up steep hills. Have yet to fix (haven't been running AC) but pretty certain it's my fan clutch as after engine is warmed up & then is turned off, fan keeps spinning (coasting).

I replaced the clutch fan, radiator cap, thermostat and thermostat gasket....is my VX supposed to be sounding like I'm driving a wind tunnel.

Some of the after market fan clutches make a lot of noise.
Plenty of detail on here if you search for it.

I replaced mine with an OEM fan and it is super noisy. I guess so the old fan does off you get used to the quiet.
