    Ham Radio Class - Denver

Saw this posted on another forum.
There is a free ham radio class in Denver on April 25 9-noon. You can sign up here:
    HamRadio

This is a much better trail solution than CB and with cheap handhelds now available for $30 that will easily outperform our large antenna setups. I signed up for the class. Colorado folks should consider doing the same and other state residents may want to look around locally to see if the same is available. The only negative issues are:
    1) it requires you to pass a test ($15)
    2) dissimilar equipment requires change and some cost
    3) group buy in needed so that majority can communicate
    There's no 'I' in denial.

Free class would be a great idea. I bought a handheld about a year ago on eBay. With the intent to get my license. Until I started recearching the test. It will take ALOT of studying to be able to pass the test. Time I just don't have right now. I got mine basically for SHTF time. In that case a license probably wouldn't matter. From what I read if it's a case of life & death your allowed to transmit without consequence but that's about the only time. You can download an app for your phone to help study for the test. Give it a look!

Our local group (Midwest Overland Society) has gone all ham. When our group got spread out on dirt roads we were having trouble communicating from the leader to the tailgunner with CB...no problem with ham.

The test isn't that hard. Depending on your knowledge background, it might only take an evening or two of study.

There are also study services like this https://www.hamradiolicenseexam.com/ that work really well and are worth the money if you are anxious about the test.

But seriously, don't sweat the test.
