I used a simple pin switch at the rear door and then ran a wire forward and connected it to the wire going from the door switch to the dome light. There is a good write up on how to do this in Tone's rear door popper instructions. I would need to hunt those down or maybe someone has them in pdf form that they could post.

I tied mine into the front light...if I get into the back I just push the cover and it comes on. I used a OEM VX front lamp for the rear. Pretty easy to tie them together using a metal coat hanger to run the wires.
If I did it again I'd mount the rear one a little further back than I mounted this one.

If you don't mount it far enough back the back seat will block the light and it won't help much...

I have a plan in mind where I want to replace the dome light with a ring of LED light strips around the circumference of the headliner.

just to clarify what my problem is, every time I hit a bump my dome light comes on. Sometimes it even comes on for no reason. One morning I had discovered that the dome light had come on in the middle of the night and killed my battery. My mechanic traced it to a faulty rear hatch dome light switch. I have seen some people have taped pennies to it, but I would prefer new parts.

As Billy said, the VX never came with a rear door switch so it must have been added by a previous owner. You could replace the switch itself, or just disconnect it so it doesn't trigger the dome light.
Can you post a picture, or two, of the switch and it's location? I'm sure that would help us help you to find a fix.
