    Lightbulb NEW VX window fix

I always thought the plastic brackets holding the glass broke or the channel was too tight and that caused the binding problems, but I now believe the root cause is a slightly tilted factory install of the window regulators.

When I first got my VX my windows were broken and would not even roll up if you rolled them down.
After I got it home we took the door panels off to see how bad it was and it was bad, the previous owner had continued to use the windows and force them up tearing up the weather stripping and all 4 plastic window brackets were broken one so bad the glass could have fallen in to the door if the other one let go.

So I got the metal brackets and the windows were still binding and would not roll up straight even after replacing the plastic window holders with the metal brackets, it did make them better because the plastic brackets were badly broken. I also widened the front channel as people suggested but still they would tilt. I even replaced the window regulator and weather stripping and still the window was binding.

So I thought there has to be another reason this is happening and after taking off the door panels and looking closely examining how the window regulator was installed I could see that the mounting holes were slightly off so the window was just slightly tilted forward and it was a very slight tilt so it was not readily apparent it was skewed so no matter what I did the window would always roll up crooked and bind, then I could see this was the likely reason the plastic window holder brackets got broken in the first place and why the weather stripping got all torn up.

So to see if this theory was correct we unbolted the window regulator and made the mounting holes slightly slotted front to back so the regulator could be slightly moved to adjust the regulator at slightly different angles until the window rolled up without binding and low and behold it worked and all of the sudden the windows rolled up and down as normal windows should.

I used a drill bit the same size as the top holes and pushed it side to side (front to rear) to make the holes slightly slotted so the angle could be adjusted. On mine the top of the track needed to be pushed a tiny amount toward the back of the VX so the glass would follow the rear channel and not catch the front channel on its way up.

Remember all VXs are different so you will have to see what works for yours and some may have to do the bottom holes too. On my passenger side I just loosened the bolts and pushed the top of the track back and the bottom forward and re tightened the bolts and it was good to go, the driver’s side did need hole mods to fix it.

It only needs a LITTLE adjustment, if we pushed the top too far back it then would bind in the rear track so it took a few tries to get the angle right so it did not catch the front or rear channel.

They have been working great now for 6 months no binding at all both sides work great now.

Thanks CatFish. God pics and good sense. My passenger window is likely to need a fix soon and this will be very helpful.

It cannot hurt to try adjusting it first, it could save someone a lot of time or money. I hope this helps someone save one or both in the future.

It was new to me because I could not find any threads showing what I did to adjust the window regulator so I thought I would post a thread about it.
How would a person find the info you posted in the past? Did you post a thread and do a write up about it? If so please add the link here.

Don't get me wrong. I'm thanking you for validating what I posted in the past and others dismissed.
Most think my only contribution was adding washers, not realizing the whys.
My gallery still has a description to every related photo, and those were shared countless times on many threads.
It's not my fault if I stopped discussing my insights when members kept dismissing them.

I'm glad someone has discovered the track has to be aligned to where the glass travels. Kudos Catfish, you got it!

So my passenger window travels great with not binding but the back edge stops just above the rubber piece at the door edge.

Will this fix allow the window to go down all the way past the rubber as it's supposed to?

    Thanks.

Earl, I think it may just need a small adjustment, my passenger side was like that and it was just tilted enough that it would bind when almost at the top. I found just the slightest adjustment makes it bind more or less I tried rolling it up and down with the bolt slightly lose and moving the track in different positions to find the sweet spot. I did have to slot the driver side to get the alignment right so the window would not bind. It is also go to have another person to help move and hold the track while testing the angles. Call me if you help, we are getting ready for Moab this week but if the weather is nice next week you could come by the house one evening after work and we could help you if you want.

Thanks for taking the time to post this here, and doing such a great job with the details, making it easy to follow and replicate. I had not seen this fix, and certainly nothing with as much detail and clarity. I'll be trying this out as I'm still with the original windows

I am glad this is helpful I wish I had know about this before I spent all the time and money on other stuff first. If you do not get the alignment right the first times you may need to also adjust or slot the bottom holes too my driver side needed a lot of adjustment that did include all bolts, so do give up it may take many different adjustments before you get it lined up just right.

I posted Sue's links and info to the original post so we can have one place to find all the window fixes. PM me if you want me to add anything, I have also save the original post to a word document in case it is lost.
