Need advice on these 18" rims

    Hey All,

I found what appears to be a good deal on 18" rims. A REALLY good deal. Worried it's too good to be true.

Anyone want to take a look at the pictures here and tell me if this is worth the trouble to buy and get shipped to me? There is some damage on the inside of one of the rims.

Another question: Do I have to do anything special to put 18" rims on my VX?

Cheers and thanks for the help.

no. those are stockers. your biggest worry is if the chrome is peeling, or there is physical damage to the rims. otherwise, those are plug and play.

Is there anything I can do if the chrome is peeling? Can I "re-chrome" them? Is that a thing?

    Yes, They can be re-chromed.

I've had several sets of wheels re-chromed through the years.

Never VX wheels, however that doesn't matter as they can be done like any other.

In Houston it runs about $100 per wheel.

By the way, there are companies that can straighten and repair damaged wheels, even if they're pretty bad.

Have them shipped to you via bus or FedEx Ground.

    Good Luck

Powder coating is also about $100 per wheel. I had a pair of rims powdercoated a metallic bronze that looked awesome (for a car, not a VX). Tons of color and finish options are available.

Thing is, when you factor in all the shipping & the work done, you are darn close to just having a new set of wheels in the first place. Probably $100 shipped for all 4 (Greyhound, if you're lucky), and $100 per wheel for work = $500 there alone. Then you have to ship back to yourself from the shop (another $100), and then add in the cost of what you paid originally. Plus, ad doesn't say if it includes tires or not--so that might be another hidden cost. Even if it includes tires, they might not be good on tread, and/or may be aged (dry-rot).

I'm just saying that there's a lot to think about. Plus, if you decide you want 33's or so, you'll probably want different (smaller) rims than these stock 18's--and that's something else to consider.

I paid about a grand for my Triad's, and I love them.

Thanks all for the great advice. At the end of the day, I wanted bigger, nicer wheels. Not sure I'm getting it with this deal. I don't suspect this guy will want to ship them either.

In the meantime, I'm going to look into getting the wheels I already have re-chromed.

Again, thanks for the help and sorry for taking so long to respond. I thought I would get an email when someone replied to the thread, but nope.
