Question... the battery strap. Did you just buy a short nylon strap, or did you actually find a "battery strap"?

My battery brace is starting to corrode, and I'll probably need to buy a battery within the next 6 months (maybe in th enext month), and wanted to use a strap, possibly instead of the brace.

The strap you see came with the battery and I retained the stock brace.

I've been meaning to take the strap off actually but it has been in the single digits all week here so the less time I spend out side the better.

I am going to remove the strap and the brace and replace them with a nice chrome after market set.

The strap is simply there to lift the battery, it does not "strap" the battery down.

Yeah, I see the oem brace there... but like I said, mine is corroding like the German dude in Radiers of the Lost Ark. I've been looking at aftermarket braces for a bit, but I haven't had time to measure it to make sure I buy the right one. I figured an adjustable strap would work fine.

try looking at batt holders made for boats. they make them with straps that would work. they also make some nice aluminum holders that may work. shawn

    Lightbulb

If you had an Optima it wouldn't corrode.

I guess that would work ok. I guess I am getting the urge to buying something new for the VX.

Vehix, if you measure the brace and/or buy one, let me know!!

    "Getting" the urge

That feeling has not gone away since I bought my VX 2 years ago!

I will try to take some messurements as soon as it worms up a bit or post some pics when I pick up the after market set.

Lame Question, what do you do to get all that "red" under the hood.Do you buy replacement parts, or just paint? If you paint (which I see the hood jack (i don't know what they are called) is), what type of paint do you use, is it two different types, one for metal and one for plastic. It looks cool, but I wasn't sure if it is for cosmetics or another purpose....

Thanks for not making fun of me!!!

The red stuff was purely cosmetics. I wanted to dress up the engine bay a bit so I used this wire cover stuff you can buy at any local auto parts store in different guages for the different size wires. This stuff will also protect the stock wiring and keep it looking new if I ever sell the VX and take it all off in the future.

The HOOD PROP was painted with high heat engine paint but will be stripped ASAP as I do not like that peice red. I want to sand it down, glass bead it and chrome polish. Also looking to chrome polish the valve covers when the time comes to replace the valve cover gaskets.

That stuff is called wire loom and just slides over your existing wires... You can also get red vaccum hose. BTW it looks really good. Think Ill do that too
