Jeep Ultimate Rescue

For those of us in rescue work, Jeep has unveiled it's latest concept car at the NY Auto Show. The picture at this link: http://www.jeep.com/jeep_life/legend...hicle=ultimate does not do it justice...not even close. At the auto show they said that this was basically Jeep's answer to the Hummer. Granted, it's no VX, but it comes ready to work...assuming it ever makes it to the driveway as is. My husband wants this one...I just want to beef my VX up so it can be dressed for all the same stuff. Anyone have any ideas on where to start? I really like the air supply tanks being located in the tubular bumpers, although, I'm wondering how much thumping they can take without blowing up. And the all those beautiful communication features are simply mouth watering!!! Here's the ad:

"The Jeep Wrangler Ultimate Rescue vehicle combines the go-anywhere, do-anything capability of Wrangler with unique features for rescue operations in extreme locations.
This Jeep image vehicle is based on the 1998 production Jeep Wrangler Sport, and features prototype Mopar Performance Parts upgrades to a standard 4.0L Power Tech I-6 engine with five-speed manual transmission. Shown for the first time, the prototype Mopar Power Tech Performance parts increase horsepower and torque by 20 percent, producing 206 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque at 2,800 rpm. The Power Tech Performance parts include a higher performance camshaft, stainless steel exhaust headers, lower restriction exhaust and upgrades to a computer-controlled engine management system.

The system includes monitors for critical engine functions, altitude, compass, temperature readings and an inclinometer."

I was reading Motor Trend today, and they just mentioned this one as Jeeps Rescue concept.

Unfortunately (or fortunately?), these cool concepts that are shown at shows and talked about seldom make it to market any where near as shown, thus allowing the VX to maintain it’s stature as the only one that did.

It does seem like a higher percentage of autos these days are making it from concept to production, though... maybe it's just my mind playing tricks on me, I don't know.

It seems like since I've actually had a subscription to a few car magazines, instead of just buying them when traveling on business, I've noticed more "concept" autos actually being built. I know, like 90% never see production, and like the 10% that do are usually somewhat heavily modified from the inital concept anyway.

Please post a pic of any vehicle that went from a show to production without substantial changes? I’m sure something has snuck through but I'll bet is it not more than a couple. The VX came through almost completely as shown if you have seen the original.

The Jeep Ultimate Rescue yurl'd in the first post in this thread is a modified Wrangler.

The Jeep Rescue Concept pictured in the second post is the one making the show circuit as Jeep's answer to the Hummer H2. It's based on the Dodge Ram chassis, and has roughly the same dimensions as the Chevy Suburban based H2.

The H2 went from concept to production with few changes. Now the Aztek OTOH.....

The Chevy SSR pretty much went straight to production from concept. Only major difference I have seen on it is the solid silver bar that ran across the rear tailgate and lights on the concept. My opinion is they should have left it on there. Looks naked without it.......

Well, whatever happens, I won't be interested in the modified Wrangler version, just the one seen at Jeepin.com and at the auto show. If it makes it to market as is, or even close, our fire department will be scrounging and begging for the grant to buy that. If it is a reasonable price, I'd like to have one of my own...or rather, my husband's, since the VX is mine.

My friend who works for the seat manufacturer says yes .Also a larger version of the Cherokee is in the works.

The audi TT actually looks better than the concept version did, although the difference is subtle.
