    Question Seeking Tire Enlightenment

Well, rallycross isn't very friendly to 18" 60-series tires as I've discovered these past two competitions. So, I'm getting a second set of 15" wheels and some Yoko MT+ rubber for competition and keeping the 18's strictly on the street. I really like the Yoko AVS-ST as I saw on VX1's IronMan, but haven't heard from 'im lately so thought I'd seek sizing experience here.

I'm looking at the 255/55R18 and would like to know how many have had experience with this size and did you have to trim.

I was hoping to go to 20" for the street but just can't swing the MOMO wheels I want so will have to wait.:rollg:

    ...

well, you are going with a lower profile...just wider. I would imagine you would not have a problem...unless you might have to trim a very slight bit..if none from the front cladding beak.

    Lightbulb

I love Pirelli tires, just not in the truck range. Had a few flavors of the Scorpion that came on a few vehicles and just don't like 'em, very poor quality atypical of Pirelli. Plus I want a street tire since my other VX will have AT tires and this one will have separate wheels/tires for rally.

    Possible?

I am looking at the OME 912 lift (~2.5"),
    The KMC Venom's in 16" (Spazz's wheel type-Zero offset)
Off road mudders in 295/75/16 size.

Should be about 11.6" wide and 33.4" tall.

I know I'll have to cut, question is: Will it work with the equipment I've listed above?

    Thumbs up

Joe I have had 255/55R18 Toyo Proxes S/T Tires on for 2 years now and I run my VX hard, as much as I can I have had not one problem with them, no trimming was needed and the spedo is almost dead on, handling was improved but this was also cause of the rims added and sway bars at the time.

so, to get a wider stance what do I need? The wheels and tires I have now are36x13.5x20 on 20x9 wheels. Do I need to buy a wider wheel? Will a more offset wheel make the tires rub due to a different turning radius? Would a spacer work? I like the look of the mud tires on the dubs, but I would like a wider stance.nitto makes a 33x14.5x22, would a tire like that w/an offset wheel do the trick? Any help would be great.

Thanks Dave! That's what I needed. The Proxes look as if they fill the wheel well out about the same as stock, I was worried they'd look a tad smaller. Are your Borbets about the same offset and such as the stock 18's?

For RallyX or rally, you want a narrow tire with limited sidewall so the vehicle responds when you want it too. Offroad / mud / floatation tires can work but you run the risk of flipping or easier flats as the tire is easier to unseat from the rim.

The VX is VERY capable in this endeavor with Jay taking many podium finished and myself taking 2 Best Overalls 2 yrs straight in the Houston SCCA series and recieving my awards from AJ Foytt. himself at the banquet.

I like the 255-55-18 size for my 'mild' street driving.

The 255 size appears to be ideal for the OEM rim width. I like the appearance - prefer them over the (too narrow) 245's - and unlike the 265's that were fitted to my VX when I purchased it, there are no issues with clearance ........ and much less 'hunting' on irregular or crowned surfaces.
    .
btw: I have Mastercraft Courser HTR plus tires installed - manufactured by Cooper. Decent 'budget' tire - I recommend.
( I posted a few comments in prev threads concerning these tires and supplied a link that lists specs and shows a pic)
