If it will take the 4.56 third member from another Isuzu, it will take the locker (RD44) too. I have moved my 4.77s from an 89 Trooper to an 88 Trooper to a 94 Trooper - all the 26 spline axle. Those 3rd members will accept the RD44. Now, the VX cast iron housing may have some interference problems with the locker, but that wouldn't prevent you from swapping to 4.56 gears and an earlier 3rd member at the same time (2 birds, one stone).

Dragon Bob has an ARB in the front. Search for old postings. He may have given all of the details.

I think my front ARB was in before Bob's. I was asking about the rear. In fact I wired mine for the rear when it became available or when the LSD failed to lock up.
    I already take it where I shouldn’t.

    ....

only thing different about our rear axles is that we have a thicker ring gear. I put in a 3rd member from a 1994 Pup and it works and fit...so ARB RD44 should fit and work in the rear axle.....

Don't want to side-track this thread too much but as long as you're talking lockers I've got a quick question. How much difference would a rear locker make if we've already got limited slip? The left:right torque split with a locker is always 50:50 - i.e., if one tire has no traction the other is still getting half the torque right? So what is the torque split with a LSD if one tire has no traction?

In my opinion, LSD and especially our sturdy rear LSD has on and offroad advantage until you get a tire in the air, or alot of weight difference from side to side (without using the e-brake trick). Lockers will lose traction at the same time. Bad on Ice, snow, gravel, and wet roads. Yikes! An LSD will corner better especially while driving spiritedly on or offroad- especially rally. A locker has the ability to turn both tires the same speed no matter what. even with 2 tires, lockers F & R will go.

I had a spare rear third member from an Amigo or early Trooper. Swordy just put it into his VX. If that worked, any older 12-bolt should work in any VX. It is just the newer Troopers, 98+, that have the different 12-bolt.

BTW - That third had the 4.55 gears.
