    Changing heater controls

I have a '99 VX, and my heater controls are ugly. They look like ther are from the eighties. At the Monticello VX meet I noticed the 2000's and 2001's have different controls. Can the controls for a 1999 be switched with a 2000? I havn't removed the dash yet or anything, just thought I would see if any one knew.

It might be difficult because the 2000 & 2001 have the automatic climate control. I am not sure how much work is involved, but I really like the climate control feature. Just set the temperature, and leave it alone. I also like that the blower doesn't go until it is up to operating temp.

    Kevin,
Sounds as though this could be a major surgery operation if you want to change to the climate control feature. Maybe just upgrading the lever buttons might be easier(maybe something fancy that lights up?)

guess I have my answer. if the 2000 heater controls are electronic, it would be difficult to swap with a 1999. there must be temperature sensors in the 2000 too. bummer. thanx for input dude.

I too asked this same question some time ago, and was given pretty much the same answer. But I wonder... it sounds like sensors and wiring are the main difference. Would this stuff really be all that difficult to swap over from say, a wrecked 00/01? Suppose we had an entire VX at our disposal...?

Having a spare VX would be sweet, but not realistic for me. I already have 2 Starions and 2 Bronco XLTs! I am starting to run out of garage space.

I was looking for a simple swap, if I was going through the trouble of changing everything, I could use heater controls from any car.

    Kevin,
I heard a rumor the Newports(danny) had a line on a "junkyard dog VX" somewhere in NYC. You might want to ask him about it.
