    Revised 3.5L V6?

    My VX suffered engine failure in 2003 and had to have the engine replaced by the dealer. It's been about 10k miles since then and I thought I'd replace the PCV. I bought the part and when I pulled the cover I found that the PCV was not like the plastic 90 degree part but a straight metal tube that sticks up about an inch or so (enough for the hose to connect to) and it appears to be integrated with the cylinder cover. It is located in the exact same spot that the 90 degree valve should be but essentially there was no part for me to remove and replace.

    Anyone have any thoughts about what the deal might be? Could I have recieved an updated engine? In comparing to the shop manual, everything else looks pretty much the same.


    BTW...Engine starts and runs well. It doesn't burn any oil either. Likes to eat alot of gas, though!

    Could you post a picture of the engine? It might be possible to match what type of vehicle it would have been for. My guess is that its a late model Trooper engine that supposedly had the better rings for no oil consumption. If so, you are lucky. A pic is the only way to know unless you can get #'s off the block.

    In 2004 Isuzu released a new 3.5L Direct Injection motor which boosts output by 20 horsepower for a total of 250 ponies. Performance figures improve greatly — Isuzu claims that 0-to-60 times drop from 8.9 to just 7.5 seconds, with the quarter-mile being cut from 16.5 seconds to 15.8 ticks. Might be that one? If it is I want to know the details on how much of the pain in the *** swap it was, cause I REALLY want that motor in my VX.

    Biju...The engine replacement was done at Tynans Isuzu in Aurora. Replacement was done at 36k. Just turned 47k yesterday. A few months ago I inquired with the dealer about the 12mo/12k warranty that was about to expire. I talked with him about all of the engine problems with I've read about on here and voiced my concern that my problem could resurface. I seem to remember him saying something like my new engine was an "updated engine" but I guess I waived this off as dealer fluff.


    Now I'm really interested. I'll try to get the numbers off the block and a pic.

    Well...I spoke to the service center of my Isuzu dealer. Apparently my engine was replaced with an updated version of the 6VE1. This is the engine used in the 2002 Trooper and has a redesigned PCV wherein it's threaded into the housing. I was told it shouldn't need replacing. Since I burn zero oil I am considering myself fortunate.

    That being said, would it seem that Isuzu "secretly" addressed the engine failures so frequently talked about on here?

    PCV valve screw in would only need a new valve cover - and has no bearing in replacement, it still will as it will still get clogged. 2002 and up engines use direct injection but may have the same top end so the old stuff could be used. Engine will use oil later....

    With all this talk of the motors using oil, has anyone considered or tried Total Seal rings? I haven't had my VX that long but about how often are you having to add oil?And is this common with all?
