Yes, I do want these tires. But I have never seen a definitive answer on how they are in snow? That would be the decision maker for me. Has anybody run these tires on 6" or so of new snow to see how they perform? They don't have to be great, but as long as they are better than the stock tires on snow I should be ok, as I am using the stock tires now, driving out on the lake to go ice fishing.

The TerraGrapplers did better for me than stock on the snow we just had here in MD. No problems with them at all, even with the wider tire, the extra meat dug in well. I have been VERY happy with the tires on the street, rain, ice, dirt, mud, and snow.

I agree - they are much better than stock over fresh snow, and even icy conditions. I have been nothing but happy with mine.

Question for the group on Nitto Terra Grapplers

OK, so Nitto has two sizes available of the Terra Grappler for our stock 18" wheels:

    255/55/18's
    285/60/18's

Question for the group at large, is there a big difference between these two and did anyone get the 255's put on?
It seems the 285's you'd have to cut a small bit of front cladding, but maybe not for the 255's(?) but is it a lot smaller tire in looks?

the 255's would have a slightly smaller diameter than stock tires (245/60). I think they would look dinky compared to the 285's

I would get the 285s. The looks are awesome and fill the wheel-well real nice,
From Unimog to VX - a serious change in velocity - a small sacrifice in voracity.

    255?

too small, and no different in looks from the stock IMO. 285/60/18's - go for it...

    New shoes for my Vx

Hi, the new terra tires look really great!!

I have been in a situation where my budget is very limited and still considering getting either the

BF Goodrich All Terrain TA KO
LT265/70R-16/D1 RWL cost $762 to get installed and everything

    or

BF Goodrich All Terrain TA KO
LT245/75R-16/E1 RWL cost $632 to get installed and everything

Now my last question is, do i have to trim my Vx to fit these? anything else i have to be aware of before getting myself spend more money which I try to avoid.

I have been reading most of the tire posting that are here, very helpful and decided to go with these tire however, i ma very new to the Vx stuff and still learning from this forum which has been resourceful and all.
    Cheers

    Big Tires No lift

Summer is over and the old Scorpion AT's get retired at 44k. Good tires.
The Nitto TerraGrapplers, at 265/75-16, 31.5" dia., are as big as I can get with out lifting.
A 3/4" of cladding was cut from in front of the front tires.
This was the free shipping package from Discount Tires Direct at $114 each. I have 18" rims, but the cost was $167 and the 285's are too wide for my stock rims. The only snag was that I missed the load rating in the order. It should have been D, for 8 ply not E for 10 ply (Rated). I did not need the harder ride and the extra unsprung weight. The web site did not describe the E=10 and D= 8 details. First impression are a little slower pick up and no different feel or ride change from the 245/70-16. The Nittos sure fill up the wheel well.
