    Exclamation Help Wiring CB Radio

I've recently decided to get my CB radio wired so I can test it out. I've run the wiring into the box underneath the CD Changer, but I haven't a clue how to attach the wires. I know it can't be hard and I'm sure I can get the parts i need from the Autozone or Radio Shack... Can anyone take the time and explain how I should go about this so I don't make any serious mistakes or get told to buy the wrong parts at the store from the clerks!

This is where I get boggled down. How do I know which wires I can splice into and how do I splice into another wire smoothly...

    Thx

My best advise for you would be NOT to splice into the CD wiring at all. The fuse load will not be able to handle two units on the same circuit. Best advise is to run the wires through that area if you are mounting the CB there to the engine compartment. Run the ground anywhere under the dash(to metal frame),run the power or hot wire directly to the battery with at least a 20 amp fuse in that line. The CB wires can be routed so that it follows the harness and won't be seen. Crimp connectors, some wire and an inline fuse is all you should need from Radio Shack. Not knowing what type of CB it is and how many wires you are dealing with makes it a little hard to give you a 100% answer.

Thanks John. I don't think I was meaning to use the "CD" wires, but the box under the CD unit has tons of wires and I think Moncha ran his CB into it. I use the Cobra 75X WT Remote mount CB radio and it only has two wires, the one's I showed. Check out Moncha's link for pictures of how I mounted it. I followed the same set-up, but he doesn't mention how he installed the Radio wires!!! Here is the link.

You do NOT want to tap into those wires as they transport signals (some digital) to the VX's computer. Easiest way is to get fuse taps at Radio Shack and piggy back on a micro fuse in the fuse panel on the side of the driver's side dash - the radio or cig lighter is good. Ground (black wire) can be any screw that goes into the steel body under the dash. Red wire should be fused and probably already on the CBs wire. The CB should also have basic instructions for connecting it.

I agree with Tone and the Bear, DO NOT tap wires. I did like Tone stated and ran wires to the fuse block (Driver's side, side dash) and used this:

    "Add -a- circuit" By Littlefuse

    (click the pic)

This allows you to tap into an existing circuit and keep the original amperage fuse for the circuit and an aditional small amp fuse for the accessory. You can find them at Checker, AutoZone, etc.

FYI, all of those wires that are covered in yellow tubing are part of the airbag circuit(s). Tread lightly around those.

I am glad to see that Scott and Tone agree with me on my diagnosis and wiring thoughts. Tread very carefully around wire bundles, take your time and good luck
