cleaning K&N versus Calmini air filters

My VX came with the cone style K&N airfilter, on bracket and all. Naturally I assumed it to be K&N so I went yesterday and got the cleaning fluid and oil for K&N. As I am finally spraying on the oil I realize to my dismay; the end of the cone states "Calmini." Well, I put the thing back in and the VX rides fine however, I know that with these filters there are cloth and paper and each requires a different cleaning process. What do my fellow VXers know about this.
From Unimog to VX - a serious change in velocity - a small sacrifice in voracity.

I've had the Calmini on for 4 years and have used the K&N cleaning kit with no problems.

You just saved me $50 for a K&N filter. Thanks Jay
