    MOAB Prep list...

    I put together a basic list of items to have at Moab - more will be listed when registration is up (which should be any day) but I think these are some of the more important ones.

    Moab Supplies List

    Mandatory:
    No alcohol / drugs on the trail
    2 or 3” x30’ tow strap w/ loops (20K lbs rated or higher)
    2 5/8” shackles for strap
    CB radio with external antenna
    Ice chest with sufficient water for all day – trail runs usually last 5-8hrs
    Food – lunch breaks usually half way through and snacks as needed
    Working seatbelts for you and all cargo that might shift
    Sunscreeen
    Layered clothing – it is usually chilly when starting out in the morning and hot by mid day
    Closed toe shoes or sandals with good traction


    Strongly suggested:
    Transfer case skid plate – Isuzu p/n PN 8-97049-784-0 Cost ~$80
    Bolts (2) 8-97104-788-0 Cost $01.68 Ea
    FRS Radio for in-town communication with other VXes – Cell phones work for the most part in Moab but the radios are easier.


    Recommended:
    8-20PSI Trailhead Tire Deflators $59 http://www.oasisoffroad.com/
    12v High output compressor or compressed air cylinder system
    Sway bar disconnects
    Full sized spare

    Trail Etiquette
    ALWAYS One of the most common and most commonly broken rules on any trail ride is to always keep the vehicle that is behind you in your rear view mirror. In this way, the group will always be together -- if the person behind you slows down, you should slow down, and this will cause a chain reaction to the whole group. This is especially important at trail intersections. If you lose sight of the vehicle in front of you, let the driver know to slow down -- another great reason to have a CB. This in turn will work its way up to the trail leader and no one will get lost. Do not follow too closely either, especially while going downhill. When you make it up over an obstacle, you need to wait for the next vehicle in line to make it, so if a strap is needed you can assist. If those below you can't see over the top of an obstacle, let them know when it's clear at the top.

    Oh yeah, I was reminded by the ladies that toilet paper would be a good addition to the list - there tend to be NO facilities in the wild’s of Moab....

    Ok, I nominate the Moncha VX to carry the porta-pot! All in favor? Passed! Shouldn’t spill on most of the trails...

    porta potty

    Just to let all of you know. Yes, there are no restrooms along the trails in Moab. ALL of the trails led by ZuZoo have a porta potty in one the leaders rigs. Depending on the number of rigs on each trail there could be up to 3 leaders on the road with you, but only one required porta potty. They will let you take care of the bag once used. Ziplock freezer bags are always a great thing to have in your truck.

    If, you plan on bringing toilet paper for yourself, please bring a ziplock bag to carry it out. Moab is beautiful and no trail needs to have toilet paper here and there.

    Never give the Sierra Club a reason to close a trail. Tread lightly, pack it in, pack it out.

    Oh yeah, Tone.... last year they made an exception to the rule for VX's about the spare tire. You might want to check and see if that is still in effect. Last year they said that VX's (who's spare tire is the same diameter as their regular ones) didn't need to go out and purchase a full/same size spare. They stated that what they had as a spare was good enough.

    I do enough camping, that carrying little bags of... Well, dodo won't bother me.
    Now, if someone has been out to a Mexican food place the night before, FORGET IT!!!!!

    Moab is getting close! Double check your list. We’ll be using Channel 13 on the CBs on the way up and FRS radio channel 13 in Moab. Scott, any chance your cafepress store can print up some radio flags for the VXes?

    Just the flags that would slip over the antenna with the .info logo on them. They could be used on the stock antenna or the CB. thanks

    Let me figure this one out.. They don't have "Radio Flags" per se.. But maybe a modified bumper sticker..

    Tim, they are little flags that make it easier to see your vehicle, especially when going over hills..

    Vehicross antenna flags would be cool!

    A couple of suggestions;
    Keep the flags small enough, so they won't add enough wind resistance to pull the mag mount antennas off the roof at 80+.

    Keep the graphics simple enough so they can be read from a distance (letters only, no VX picture).

    I think the modified bumper sticker is a great idea, folding the sticker around the antenna in the middle and back on itself, like a ski lift ticket.

    One other thing to check is parking brake operation- it should be able to hold your VX from moving while in gear without being pulled to the max. Adjustment is via a double nut assembly under the VX - 14mm I think and a pain to adjust but very important on the trail.
