Thread: New Dual catback....

  1. #16
Resonators tend to deepen the tone a little as well as know down the db's a little but not a lot. One thing to remember is that with the S/C you are increasing your compression this WILL make the exhaust louder than a non S?Ced car. At high rpms there is not a lot you can do to quiet it down without adding some restriction on flow. I personally have a lot of experiance with this since i build custom mufflers for all sorts of cars and trucks. I use a diversionary baffle style muffler similar to a flowmaster but i have figured out how to "tune" the tone somewhat by the placment and design of the baffles in the muffler. Normally i build a single in dual out or dual in dual out muffler for a dual setup. This tucks the muffler back into the stock location so pipe routing is not an issue. Back to your problem, i dont think resonators will quiet it down enough, i think you will need different mufflers, but that is just my opinion. If you have any ?s about exhaust specifically please feel free to ask, i have been building these mufflers for about 5 yrs now and i have a lot of experiance in this field. I am actually designing a new two chamber muffler for my soon to be S/Ced Axiom, it will be a litle more mellow than my current mufflers. Ask Moncha about my Axiom and what it sounds like since we share the same engine.

Cyrk - you have probably THE best looking VX I have seen - I hate to tell you this man, but the best looking mufflers back there instead of what you have are....none. Mufflers need to be hidden - only the tip(s) should show.

Thanks guys for all your sugesstions... Tues resonators are going on... if that does not mellow it out I am going to have to lop them off and figure out something else... Performance wise it feels like a beast and has a allot more pull now you can tell the motor is really breathing well now with this setup but boy is it loud... to the point I am embarrassed to get on it.

Morgan-tech, can i purchase 2 smaller mufflers from you that might work with this setup? i really want that mellow electronic sounding exhaust - alah FX35. What do your muffler sound like?

Ah man, Morgan-Tec's destiny is to create a dual output system for the VX. Spread the ZooZoo love. Nobody will ever work on a VX cause they have no idea what in the hell they are. That's why I am forced to find a new speedshop now. Mine is in there today as they look it over and see if it's something they are willing to play with even though it's just in for some fluid changes today. The last speedshop was sold and bought up by somebody who made it a general auto mechanic shop. No more 1/4 mile machines there.

I am very sad. Running out of oprtions....

The inlet on the 524562 is offset to keep the installation of the muffler in the stock position. I didn't have to use a "Y" connector or baffler. Because the exhaust is separted inside the muffler chambers, you get the same amount of exhaust out of each outlet and therefore each pipe. The tips (which are Stainless 304 Steel) came from Trick Trucks ($65 ea) and Meineke did the pipes and installation ($80 parts and $175 labor). The pipe from one outlet is straight out the rear of the driver's side and the pipe from the second outlet is routed up and over the rear axle, over and behind the gas tank, between the gas tank and rear wheel, and out the back on the passenger's side. Both pipes fall about 2-3" below the bumper and almost directly under the rear reflectors. I also didn't have to lose my rear tie downs. The noise from the 50 series FlowMaster inside the truck is barely above that of stock at idle or while cruising at highway speed. Only time there's obvious noise is during acceleration. But the sound is so sweet!

On my old vx I found a flowmaster muffler gave my trucck a really nice sound and tone. On start up it sounded more like a V8. I had planned on doing custom piping to make the exhaust but my car got totalled in a car wreck. As far as the flowmaster though it made a nice difference even with the stock piping

Doesn't a stock 350Z use 2 mufflers? Then you'd have only half a system, right??
