I'm actually holding out for the Playstation3. I believe it will be a better system, cell processor, 50GB blu-ray discs, HDMi outputs, I own about 50 PS2 games, etc.
The 360 is definatley impressive, I've played CoD2 and it looks great. I think it may have been rushed to market, but I guess we'll see. I did read a bit the other day about M$ pumping false shortage to increase interest/demand, I figure it's cause they already know it will be an outdone 'old' system sometime next year. Not a long life for a console...
Regardless, I wouldn't buy either till I upgrade my television. I've got my eye on a DLp. But like ISCE said, it's the peripherals that you have to worry about.
What do I think?
I think the PS3 is still a long ways away, so for now, The 360 will be the best, heh.
Seriously, Sony hasnt even sent us development kits, so I REALLY dont think they even know what they box will do. You can read this and that on the internet all you want, but until the actual developers get kits in, the hardware is only speculation. I do look forward to working with the PS3 though. I am a huge Sony fan and I hope they can stay on top of their empire in the industry.
Nintendo Revolution however.... what can I say. With that stupid as all hell controller gig they are going with, they may as well just give up and start making fishing rods.

I have read quite a few articles about the Xbox 360, but not one answered my only question... will the new system play "old" Xbox games? Every article talked about the improved graphics (no duh, what a shocker... a new system is better than the previous version!!!), etc. and raved about it, and then failed to mention wether or not my $1500 worth of games would even work on the damn thing... brilliant! Even the Xbox 360 website is useless... unless you want to watch a green glowing dot circle endlessly. Retards. The reason I got a PS2 was it would play all the older titles too. The only reason I got an Xbox in the first place was because I won it from Taco Hell. However, it is a great system & hooked me on Halo. Oh, well (unless one of you know the facts) I guess it'll remain a mystery.
Noct, lack of information is sometimes informative in and of itself!
XBOX 360 Backwards Compatability List
It looks like they are still going through emulation on some of the games. "The folks at Xbox® are working hard to add more of your favorite games to this list, so check back often for the latest updates."

The $400 model WILL DEFINITELY play old XBOX games in fact the 360 has hardware (or software?) built in that will immediately increased the graphics of old XBOX games. This has already been tested by www.ign.com on Halo 2 and they did a write up on it and said pretty much the edges of all objects are more defined and clear, and ok say you are looking at a flat rock wall the 360 will automatically make depth to the wall giving it "edges". How this really looks is yet to be seen by me, but as the testers said the effects are minimal but noticable. But yes the more expensive $400 model will be reverse compatible. Hope that helps.
In Christ,

both of these previous post are only partially true.
only about two hundred games are compatable at launch.
its like this, xbox uses a completely diff gpu than x360 so you have to emulate the older games, this is where the hard drive (included in the $400 model) and xbox love come into play. you insert disc xbox live checks for emulator, if its available it downloads and saves to hard drive. if not tough luck and you gotta wait, they are gonna add more and more as time goes on but not all games will be compatable. this is the list of games that will work at launch IF YOU HAVE THE HARD DRIVE.

How can you be a Sony fan after the latest Sony/BMG fiasco?
yes the new xbox will play your old xbox games.
You'll even be able to download existing xbox games on xbox live.
And what exactly is the point of 50gb bluray? So square can make their games COMPLETE FMV movies instead of the 99% they are now?

What does being a "fan" of one holding of a corporation have to do with your decision to buy gaming consoles from another of their holdings?Originally Posted by Maugan_VX

Bad analogy, microsoft has released quality products year after year with free updates to newfound bugs everyday."How can you buy an XBox after all the buggy Windows crap Microsoft has thrown at us?"

On the other hand, Sony attempts to load malicious spyware copy protection onto your machine. (and if you try to tell me its only possible because of windows, I'll laugh because the same thing could be written for OSX) Bad Bad Sony! When I bought a 65" sony TV, the HDTV "unit" went bad, and sony refused to replace it because it only screwed up on ~50% of the channels.
I could go on and on about the crappiness of Sony products and why they are a POS corporation, but its all ancedotal.
I'm wonder if any of these people (http://www.ps2settlement.com/) will be buying PS3's?
So basically, what you're saying, is that your personal experience with Sony has been bad, and therefore it's your goal to hurt them in any way possible, including smack-talk on public forums.
Maugan, while I agree with you that most of Sony's products have gone way downhill, every big corporation has a bad side to it. There is no preverbial savior among them. Sure, Sony has jumped into the spyware game... one that Microsoft jumped into years ago. You don't remember all the madness about Windows XP and ME allowing MS to look into your machine? You don't remember the holy craptitude of Windows 98? Or OMG 3.1? How about the fact that Microsoft has virtually monopolized the software industry and overprices its buggy software. How about citing their NMEROUS lawsuits? Although Freeware is certainly making a stand. I've heard the new OpenOffice is badass. Anyhow, I'm getting off topic.
The point is that no big corporations are philanthropical pushovers. They do whatever it takes to make money. End of story. Should that stop you from buying either the XBox 360 or the PS3? Well, no, not in and of itself. But the wise consumer will be wary of both, and will carefully evaluate them to ensure that he's getting a quality product.
I'm already wary of the XBox after hearing the BS about emulation. Sounds like a typical MS crapware non-solution to me.
