How can I tell if I still have a warranty?

I bought a '01 back in Nov. '05. I'm probably the 3rd owner. It has 50k miles on it. How can I tell if I have a warranty on the drivetrain? Do I just call a local isuzu dealer and give the VIN? I know the warranty if cut in half when bought second hand.

i highly doubt u have warranty left, do a search to find ur answer cause i dont remember the exact answer. but its something like, the 2nd owner has 1/2 warrenty so if it was 100,000 miles the 2nd owner has 50,000 of warranty.

Its actually 10/120k for theoriginal owner. So that would be 60k miles. But I still don't know if I'm covered.

Find out the "In Service Date". Any dealer can get this from a VIN search.

This is the date that the vehicle was first transferred from Isuzu to a private owner.
My wife's Dragon (bought used) had an in service date of 9 September 2001, so it's warranty is still good to 9/9/06.

If your truck was purchased late in the year, you may still be under warranty.

I received my brand new 2000 VX right off the boat, in the month of May. The day I took possession of it began the warranty period.

As mbeach states, warranty begins from the initial "in service" date or when the 1st owner takes delivery.

The 1st owner has a 10 year/120K mile warranty that is non-transferable except to immediate family members, as is clearly stated in the warranty guide that comes with new Isuzus. The basic drivetrain warranty is 5 year/60K miles and is not affected by change in ownership as far as I can discern in any of the paperwork.

If you can't easily determine the initial delivery date of your VX give CarFax a shot as they'll show the original date of registration which should get you within 30 days of the delivery date.

Well I couldnt wait until the morning so I ran a Carfax report. It looks like it was titled 8/14/01. I have 50,600 miles. Hopefully its warranted for the powertrain.

I bought an '01 in Nov. of '02. The car wasn't put on the road until 6/02, the in service date, w/ just under 6000 miles. The dealers have always been reluctant to do warranty work. Finally, a technician explained the half warranty for 2nd owner and told be my warranty would be up in 6/06.

Could he have misquoted the date to me?

Well what can I do if they tell me they wont do the warranty work? What if the vehicle has more than two owners?

I wish I could answer that for you Huggy.

I've taken mine to Fitzgerald on Rockville Pike since I bought it. Let me put it this way, they never volunteered to do any warranty work. I had to press them to do my windows, something I would not have done had I not read the thousands of posts on this board and the old one.

I finally got one of the service managers to level with me. (Long story, but they tried to charge me for work that I knew was covered under warranty, agains because of this baord).
