Arrow Arggg! Front Tag Cover "De-laminating"!

Was walking back to the IronMan from one of my site visits and saw something odd with the front and upon closer inspection found the tag cover piece missing a section and the rest of it literally delaminating in layers. As a '99 with almost 130K miles I'm sure it's one of the more "senior" VX's out there, so this may be something to keep an eye out for. I certainly don't like the look without it, so am already toying with the idea of making a replacement. All I need, another project!

bummer man! Do you spend a bunch of time in the bush...getting that thing whacked by underbrush? Or does it spend its whole life under the sun? Any idea what has caused it?

This is part number 2-90310-940-0 (Front bumper garnish). Costs $25.64 at https://www.isuzuparts.com/

My 2001 VX didn't have it and so I just ordered one.

How did I find out about it in the first place?

Looks like it took a hit from something. I don't believe the sun would have done that. I live in the middle of the desert with 100+ degree temps 8 months out of the year and mine is doing just fine.
Maybe when you make a new one you could incorprate some mounts for aux. lights...like the euro ones have!
    Like this one...

This VX hasn't been offroad much, and never at speed. So likely heat and humidity together with age. Florida is an official extreme duty environment, and we've got areas set aside all over the place here in the central area where they put out stuff for torture testing.

I found one of them things in the back of my wife's proton when we bought it. I had no idea what it was but now I do. I guess I won't throw it away after all.

i have never seen it either, come to think of it. But the metal part that is exposed behind the part that is missing...that I have seen. Methinks I'll v enture over to VX parts. Do you know if I get the front skid plate from japan perfect if it would cover of this par of the front or is this area too high and I would need the replacement anyway?

Looks like a Walmart pimple, or perhaps whiskey bump. A LOT of our work is from the parking lots of Wally World or bars. Funny, no one ever stops and leaves their name and number.

    Arrow

Well, while changing oil this evening I remembered to pull it off and it definitely is some sort of material degradation. My best guess is environmental. But while staring at the empty spot waiting for oil to drain I got some great replacement ideas!

I have a low mileage example from an '01 sitting in a box in the garage.
