I am looking at a VX that the black cladding is sun faded. I was wondering if anyone has had theirs painted or painted it themselves? What kind of results have you had to the paint sticking. If so, what kind of paint did you use?
Thanks, Rick

...or you can save a substantial amount of coin by simply buying numerous cleaners that will bring the color back (Maguires, Mothers, Ice, etc..)
Do a search under cladding or cleaners

The guy in the post above spent around $40 to paint his himself with very good results. I am sure many here using cleaners such as were described have spent well over that during the owning of their VX so choose what is best for you.
.....and you think you're not going to eventually put some form of protectant over the painted cladding?

Considering it only costs $40.....why not paint it every 6 months instead?
LOL
Don't most of the people on these message boards spend that much on cladding protectant in 6 months anyway?
I am just throwing out options.....I am sure that Geshaw takes better care of his VX than I do and has better first-hand knowledge of the situation. My VX is the only car I own and I don't have time to mod it and baby it like I would like to. Ever since I saw the VX on the dealer lot when I went looking at Xterras and Rodeos I knew this was the car I would be happier with, minor problems and all.
Like I said before try to learn as much as you can and do the thing you feel is best for you.
i keep my vx pretty clean usually, probably put product on the cladding once every other week.. i spend about $6 a bottle and each bottle lasts me 8-10 coats.. so about $6 every 3-4 months is all i need to spend (i spend more to try new stuff, but always end up comin back to my 'black again'
Just my 2 cents, the cladding was never "Black" even when brand new.Originally Posted by WHITEWING57
It's a dark gray. I just pressure wash mine, takes the lighter oxidation right off. Cost per year?
Chrysler mini vans had two colors of unpainted bumpers, gray and green.
"Sport" models had painted bumpers. Same material.
Could be painted any color, Body shops put an additve for flexing.
Rino coat or Line X, is the same type of urathene material, so it would bond best.
Changing the color would show the door dings and scratches more, which is the reason for cladding in the first place.
