    Snowboard rack?

Okay guys it's been almost a month and I love my VX. Now I have yet another question, this time about roof racks. I have never owned an SUV before or any type of car with roof racks (bars, mounts whatever) so I am pretty ignorant on the subject.

My VX has yakima bars already on it, so will any yakima snowboard rack fit to these? I am looking at the big powderhound (holds 4 snowboards) and was wondering if anyone else has done this.

I did do a search but did not yield anything quite to this effect.

    gexxo18,

I JUST (like this past weekend) put the Big Powderhound on my VX, and it took a little bit of searching around to find the right mount. Even though we have a Yakima rack, the bars are so wide that no standard mount will fit it. I've had to use crazy adapter bars to fit my bike racks on it, and to get the Big Powderhound to fit you'll need to hunt down Yakima's Universal Mighty Mount. The mounts are super easy to set up and use. I'll go outside, take some pictures, and post them in a little while, but for now, check out the link:

    Happy boarding!!

Edit: Here are some images of the Big Powderhound on the car with the Universal Mighty Mounts. Don't look too closely, though. V didn't know that she was going to be in a photo shoot today, so she didn't take a shower. Eeewww!!

    Bump.

Just wanted to get this back on the main page.

Does anyone else have a different or better way to mount stuff to the factory bars?

Horizontal = runs flat with the oval shaped bars on the VX

Vertical = runs up and down realitive to the mounting point

    http://www.backcountry.com/store/YAK...swatch=YAK0078

Top is vertical and Bottom image is horiontal...

Just depends on how the device you are using attaches to the rack...

    ojmagg,

Do those Mighty Mounts work on our bars? I thought that is what I needed, originally, but when I went to the rack store we brought those outside, and they where nowhere near big enough for our bars. Maybe the rack guy didn't know of a larger version.

    gexxo18,

The Big Powderhound needs the vertical mount. The mount point on the Mighty Mount will slide up into the base of the Powderhound and get squeezed between the two sides of the hound. (should be visible in the pictures I posted)

I just recently bought a Yakima Skybox 1600 with Q towers and 48" bars for the Axiom and i love it. I can throw six boards and gear in there and then pack the Ax with boardin buddies. Only downfall is that it will not fit in my garage, but it does uninstall from the bars in like 10 sec. Best investment as far as usability i have made to date. Whos up for some ridin?

OX - I just recently put some big powderhound ski/snowboard carriers on my Yakima rack (aftermarket round bars as opposed the oval bars in the OEM version).

However, looking at the mounts that came with my powderhound carriers, they are universally set up to work with round, square or oval bars. I can't see from my application as to where you would have any problem.
